Nigeria’s First Metro Wi-fi, Oxygen Broadband Launches In Computer Village by shakomende: 5:14pm On Sep 20, 2012
Nigeria’s first metropolitan wi-fi, Oxygen Broadband Networks has launched providing Lagosians in the Computer village area of Ikeji with their wi-fi needs.

Speaking at the network service provider’s launch in Lagos last month, the Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder of the company, Mr. Wande Adalemo, said:

“Oxygen is setting up a Wi-Fi network to provide access to the Internet. By using Wi-Fi technology, a fault tolerant and flexible infrastructure can be delivered. A central Network Operation Centre is in place to enable a 24/7 monitoring of the network and to guarantee fast reaction times in case of faults by the local NOC personnel. The first Hot-zone is at ‘Computer Village’ area of Ikeja, Lagos State. Stakeholders in Computer Village require Internet services extensively.”

According to him, the company aims to deliver mass market broadband to Nigerians through two packages it is marketing in the country: ‘Oxygen for you’ and ‘Oxygen for business’.

To roll out the network, so far, the company has partnered with Nigeria’s Main One Cable Company as well as with Loop21 Mobile Net, a Wi-Fi hotspot software development company located in Austria.

So far, over 6,000 devices have been connected to the company’s wi-fi network since its launch.

Computer Village is Oxygen’s first hotspot zone and currently has over 60 access points over a 1km radius of the country’s electronics trading hub.
