This is sad! Considering its a major link. A yenagoa - ph journey that takes an average of 1:30mins is now 5hours, if you make the journey.

since independence in 1960 up till now it is only one road that links the East with the West and it is not even dualized.

Bayelsa and Rivers have one of the highest Allocation yet do not have a standard road linking the two sister states.
Do we still blame FG?

The only means of passing that road they say is by tipper in the mild areas and boat in the bad ones or you follow Owerri to Onitsha, Asaba, Benin then back to Sapele, Warri and Ughelli.

Is it a natural disaster to have crater in the middle of a highway?

If such flood were to be in a good road like those in Akwa Ibom , I'm sure motorists would still pass through.

Am sure u don't know what it takes 2 construct a road in dat region......it's easier said than done.....!

It takes approximately 500m to get a kilometre of road through that terrain . Port Harcourt to Yenegoa is about 131km meaning u can get the entire road under 70m. Rivers state get like 15b per month from fed allocation n Bayelsa something close to that. If they can contribute 1billion per month, they can get it done.
.
It can be hard to do in the Nigerian system
.
Afterall MNDA is doing the entire 338km East West road with 350b

First of all, thank God u said approximately 500m 2 run a km of road across d terrain.......my question is dis do u know how much it takes 2 sandfill where d proposed route would pass thru, not 2 talk of d bridges.....if its dat easy, why is setraco having a hell of a time wit d already existing east/west road......its easy 2 quote em figures but go 2 d field & see d challenges dat await u.......I aint saying its not possible 2 construct em link roads....but it has 2 be a joint effort......joint effort here means FG & d state govt.

This has nothing to do with government. It is the outcome of the recent flood. We are really cut off from the other parts of Nigeria. God have mercy on Nigeria. For you to pass that place now, you can only enter tipper or other long cars. It is very rough but the flood is coming down a little bit.
Re: Yenagoa - Port Harcourt Road Wrecked By The Flood (pictures) by pawa4ul: 9:27pm On Oct 20, 2012
Why haven't we even named these floods? The slightest of this in the USA would have attracted names like Hurricane Jonathan, Storm Amaechi, or even Tsunami Obi, Seriake and Udaghan etc. Just asking sha.

There should be a federal road link both states.

Can it be done? YES

Is the technology to fix such a road available in Nigeria? YES

Can the government afford it? YES

So what is the reason why such an important road is still bad? Bad government.

STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR BAD GOVERNMENT
