22:26 Behold! We gave the site, to Abraham, of the (Sacred) House, (saying): "Associate not anything (in worship) with Me; and sanctify My House for those who compass it round, or stand up, or bow, or prostrate themselves (therein in prayer).

22:27 "And proclaim the Pilgrimage among men: they will come to thee on foot and (mounted) on every kind of camel, lean on account of journeys through deep and distant mountain highways;

22:28 "That they may witness the benefits (provided) for them, and celebrate the name of Allah, through the Days appointed, over the cattle which He has provided for them (for sacrifice): then eat ye thereof and feed the distressed ones in want.

22:29 "Then let them complete the rites prescribed for them, perform their vows, and (again) circumambulate the Ancient House."

22:30 Such (is the Pilgrimage): whoever honours the sacred rites of Allah, for him it is good in the Sight of his Lord. Lawful to you (for food in Pilgrimage) are cattle, except those mentioned to you (as exception): but shun the abomination of idols, and shun the word that is false,

Assalam alaykum,

Beautiful rituals in Islam.

This article intends to simplify the rituals of the hajj experience for those of us who hear about hajj but do not know what it entails or have forgotten the procedure for the hajj.

The hajj is the 5th pillar of Islam and is obligatory on every sane adult Muslim who is able to afford, and perform it.
Going for hajj is not the same as going for a tour of sightseeing or relaxation.
The hajj is an intensely spiritual journey of faith where worship of Allah is the sole aim and major activity of every pilgrim throughout their stay in the most sacred of places.
Pilgrims are to spend the entire period of the hajj in remembrance of, fear of, and supplicating in hope to their Lord. It is ideal to know how, where, and when: to say the Talbiyah, to say Takbir, or to just supplicate.

Ps: this is only a summary, do not use as a guide for undertaking the hajj. It is only meant to arouse our curiosity about hajj. Prospective hujjaj are advised to get a proper hajj guide written by scholars and study diligently before going on hajj. Remember hajj usually is a costly undertaking; you don’t want to waste your energy, time, and money or even risk not getting the full spiritual rewards of hajj by not preparing well.
Half of every journey is adequate preparation. May Allah Azza wa Jal make our journey towards completing our religion easy for us.

Umrah: lesser pilgrimage. Can be performed any time of the year.

Umrah of hajj: lesser pilgrimage. Performed only during the months of
hajj i.e. the last 3 months occurring after the month of Ramadan in the
Islamic calendar: Shawwal, Dhul qadah, Dhul hijjah in that order. Should
be combined with hajj i.e. usually performed before the greater hajj,
with or without interruption.

Hajj: greater pilgrimage. Performed only during the last month of
hajj: Dhul hijjah. (This is the head of the whole matter, the main
thing). Usually performed with umrah with or without interruption.

(note that there are 3 types of the greater hajj:

1. interrupted hajj: hajj tamattu; umrah and hajj with a period of exit
from ihram after umrah, and then entry into
ihram again for hajj on the 8th Dhul hijjah.
(this article will attempt to briefly describe the interrupted hajj).

2. combined hajj: hajj qiran; umrah and hajj without exit from ihram in
between.

3. hajj alone: hajj ifrad; hajj without umrah(only for residents of
Mecca, sacrificing an animal is not obligatory).

Ihram: state of physical and spiritual purity entered into by
pilgrims signifying the start of hajj.

Mecca: most holy city in Islam. In present day Saudi Arabia.

Kaabah: most sacred site in Islam, cubical house in Mecca,
kingdom of Saudi Arabia; believed to have been built by prophet Ibrahim,
and his son Ismail. Located centrally within the courtyard of the great
mosque at Mecca.(masjid al haram)

Tawaf: anticlockwise circular movements about the Kaabah by
pilgrims. Repeated seven times, with 1st 3 circuits done at a rapid
walking pace, and last 4 circuits at normal pace. Start and stop at the
black stone. You should be ritually pure for tawaf(ablution).

Zam zam: sacred well close to the Kaabah. Pilgrims usually drink
from zam zam after completing Tawaf.

As Safa and Al Marwa: two elevations of land close to the Kaabah,
now also located within the great mosque. The Egyptian slave of prophet
Ibrahim and mother of prophet Ismail: Hajar; is believed to have paced
frantically between these two elevations in search for relief for her
distressed baby(Ismail).

Saay: pacing between As Safa and Al Marwa by pilgrims. Repeated
seven times. Starting at Safa and ending at Marwa.

Mina: city of tents about 5km east of Mecca.

Muzdalifah: area 5km east of mina

Arafat: sacred hill(about 70m in height) with surrounding plains,
about 7km east of Muzdalifah. Most important activity of the hajj is
staying here to worship(vigil/wuquf) on the 9th Dhul hijjah.

HAJJ TAMATTU(umrah, then hajj)

A. Umrah(performed within the months of hajj)

•Enter into ihram at designated station(miqat) depending on route of entry into the region of the sacred places.

•Go to the Kaabah, perform Tawaf as described above

•Go to as Safa and Marwa, perform saay.

•Exit ihram

Umrah completed,
pilgrims who are willing to also perform the hajj would have mandatorily performed their umrah during the months of hajj. They now exit ihram, to enter again on the 8th Dhul hijjah.

B. Hajj

•Enter ihram in Mecca from 8th Dhul hijjah

•Then go to mina, while there, pray Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha of the 8th , and Fajr of the 9th Dhul hijjah

•After sunrise on the 9th(day of Arafat), go to Arafat, while there, pray Zuhr, and Asr and wait till after sunset. Pilgrims spend the period at Arafat in concentration on worship, supplication, and repentance. This is the most important stage of the hajj, and hajj is not valid without the vigil at Arafat.

•After sunset on the same 9th Dhul hijjah, go to Muzdalifah, then pray Maghrib and isha, and wait till after fajr of the 10th Dhul hijjah.

•After sunrise on the 10th (day of sacrifice/eid adha), go back to mina and there:

1.throw seven small stones at the stone pillar at Aqabah, saying the takbir each time(this is an act of worship like the other rituals of the hajj regardless of the various ideas people have associated with the act)
note that: there are actually 3 stone pillars at mina, but at this stage pilgrims only throw at the pillar closest to Mecca i.e. the stone pillar at Aqabah.

2.slaughter a sheep for sacrifice

3.exit ihram(note that though pilgrims have exit ihram, have cut their hair and may wear perfume and their daily clothes, “marital relations” is still prohibited)

•then on the same 10th day, go back to Mecca and make Tawaf(tawaf al ifadah: this is the major tawaf of hajj).
•Also perform Saay(the saay of hajj).

•Pilgrims now return to their tents in mina to spend the nights of the 10th, 11th, and 12th.
On the afternoons of the 11th and 12th, pilgrims now stone all 3 stone pillars at mina in a like manner to the stoning performed earlier.

•You now leave mina before sunset on the 12th for Mecca, where you make the final tawaf(farewell tawaf/ tawaf al widah) to bid goodbye to the house of Allah, many pilgrims now in tears.
No saay is required after this tawaf.

So now the hajj is complete but it is beneficial for pilgrims to proceed to medina where the visit the prophet’s mosque(peace be on him), and his grave, as well as the graves of the esteemed companions. Fearing Allah and not committing shirk at these graves. You should also visit the mosque at Quba, the first mosque in Islam.

May peace and blessings of Allah be upon the prophet, his family, and his companions till the day of resurrection.
May Allah accept the humble service of all past and present hujjaj, may He bestow on those of us yet to visit the means to do so.
Ma salaam.

Aslamoalekum brothers & Sisters
I just want to know what Islam says about people who deeply hurt others? Will Allah forgive them? Well i know only Allah knows that but just say if that person never forgives that person will his/her hajj be accepted? I know Islam teaches to forgive but sometimes the wounds can be so deep that you cant forgive! So what does Islam say about hurting someone deeply?
