How To Pronounce "Fork" Correctly by ojeffo: 7:49pm On Oct 25, 2012
During a recent PTA meeting of my kids's school,an issue came up.A parent said that the children should be made to learn phonetics correctly. She gave an example of how her child(who attends another school) corrects them in the house when they call FORK "fork" Instead of "FEK". Another parent who studied English Language(Bsc),tried to let her know that the actual correct spelling is "FORK".At that point, the headmistress of the school told the meeting that those calling it "FORK" are woefully wrong(can u imagine) that it is pronounced FERK.....PLS FELLOW NAIRALANDERS,WHY DO NIGERIANS PRONOUNCE IT AS FERK INSTEAD OF FORK?

@ OP: the right pronunciation is "FORK". The vowel sound between the "f" and "k" is the long "o:" sound. You're right while the other chap & the headteacher are wrong. This is authoritative.

D reason nigerians call it fek instead of fork is cos it sounds same as d four letter word and in d bid to avoid dt, they go fek all d way
