My mazda tribute has been acting a little strange of late so I decided to do a scan on it and I got d P0401 error code(EGR flow insufficient detected) . How do I get rid of this? |

wurdz: My mazda tribute has been acting a little strange of late so I decided to do a scan on it and I got d P0401 error code(EGR flow insufficient detected) I would be looking at the pipework, check for dents, kinks or other damage. Remove it from the EGR valve to do this. Make sure the pipe isn't blocked by soot. Also check where the pipe attaches to the exhaust manifold - the hole must be soot-free. Next, look at the EGR valve itself. The most common fault is when the valve or its pipework is choked by soot. If the valve is stuck open, the car will run rough. As the engine warms up, it'll get progressively worse. Some EGR valves are sealed. I would imagine yours can be dismantled. If you decide to dismantle it for cleaning (with carburetor cleaner, not petrol) make sure you remember how it goes back together. Replace and clear codes, test drive the car for at least 4 miles. Check for codes once more. If code returns, replace the EGR valve with a NEW one, not used. |

thanks all, plan on checking the pipework/EGR as suggested by Sienna and the DPFE as suggested in the links sultaan provided. i hope it is a successful operation. I also plan on cleaning the throttle body as the car stalls before acceleration. i will update all on the success. |
