Rebirth: This is still in conformance with the the theory that Igbos have some links with the Jews, especially when you factor in the fact that the Israelites sojourned in Egypt for hundreds of years. It is very possible that a group emerged which were influenced by both cultures. |

@RichyBlacK Spot on. I like ur view on this issue. That is another worthy hypothesis |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by davidif: 12:36am On Feb 11, 2008 |
I can't believe people here are so naive to believe this myth because of what they read on the internet or some hoax that was passed down from there parents. There is absolutely no evidence at all besides for some conspiracy theorists running around spreading rumors in a poor region where everybody is willing to hold on to something. This myth that igbos are jews is just what Ojukwu propagated during the civil war to create a siege mentality among the igbos (us against them mentality) to rally them for war and to justify secession (treason) as being noble and just. Igbos are Nigerians like everyone else, let me be the first to say it I AM NIGERIAN AND WELL PROUD OF IT. When i was in primary school in naija, they said that hausas originated from somewhere, they also said that yorubas migrated from saudi arabia, which was just a folklore so my good friends don't go around looking like fools abeg, y'all nigerians like everybody else. |

Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by Mortiple(m): 4:34pm On Feb 11, 2008 |
Tufiakwa!!! (abomination) Ndigbo are not from Egypt. I dont also agree that Igbos are Israelis. IGBOS are IGBOS! God Almighty made it so. That is why we are unique. Whoever did this research must be crazy. Why was Onitsha DIALECT used as case study? (Note: Onitsha dialect connotes the Igbo language as spoken by Onitsha indigenes). Are the people of Onitsha Igbos? Why not Enugu, Nnewi, Umuahia, Orlu, Awka, Owerri, etc. Akwa uwa! |

Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by grafikdon: 9:40pm On Feb 11, 2008 |
romeo: How ironic- - - Igbo people no dey do arakuba. The only few into that thing na pure wayo wayo and absolute wuru wuru. Only about 0.001% of them do arakuba out of personal conviction. |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by grafikdon: 9:46pm On Feb 11, 2008 |
davidif: My brother, leave that Ojukwu matter for another thread. He didn't need some moonlight tales to go to war or commit ''treason'' . . . the wholesale massacre of his people is more than enough reason. Besides, that Jew tales by moonlight has been around before the war, so make you talk another thing. |

4 Play: This funny, not because it is hilarious, rather it is the most redundant, irrelevant line in the history of mankind. It's like saying ''A= kangaroo and B= Xylophone.'' |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by londoner: 11:11pm On Feb 11, 2008 |
Its easy just to dismiss, but the truth is that Igbo's don't actually know if they originated from anywhere else other than where they are now, and if we did where that place is. Now isn't that the truth? |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by Rebirth(m): 9:51pm On Feb 12, 2008 |
davidif: That is the issue with nigeria; people are either afraid or ashamed of their origins. rather than look into the past in search of the realities of their past, they hide under the pretext/pretence of "we are okay where we are", if we never understand the past, the future of our cultures is at risk, never wondered why the Igbo language is the fastest fading of the three major languages of nigeria Every other word in a sentence has english in it. i am a linguist so i understand the intricacies which you may not! |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by toshmann(m): 12:40am On Feb 13, 2008 |
Rebirth: nice try, but i think the most important thing for the igbos now is how to improve their economy/living standard today. when they are more comfortable they can now start researching about where their ancestors came from. no one so far has suggested we came from trees,at least we know we are human beings grafikdon: but that may be a reflection of the relevance of this thread. absolute bunkum |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by naijadiva2(f): 3:51am On Feb 13, 2008 |
Rebirth: how are we ashamed of where we "supposedely came from" if there's no valid proof. Not knowing where we came from has nothing to doing with the language dying. They language is fading because parents are not teaching their children the language or they're just too lazy to do so. Also everyone wants to speak English. Other people in french speaking countries prefer speaking french rather than their native language but are you going to accuse them of not knowing where they came from just because they choose to speak french. |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by OgidiBoy(m): 4:09am On Feb 13, 2008 |
This Igbo language most be very popular for non-igbos to want to study our culture, language, and even marry our women. I wonder what makes Igbo culture so talked about. I almost never see threads about alakuba people on NL. |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by debosky(m): 4:12am On Feb 13, 2008 |
@ Ogidi who are the alakuba people? Igbos are a proud and industrious people with peculiar characteristics, naturally this creates both friends and enemies, hence the large number of threads. Languages are dying because of English all over the world, it is not a peculiarly Nigerian problem. We need to find ways to encourage our language and make the younger people regard it as being cool. |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by OgidiBoy(m): 4:18am On Feb 13, 2008 |
debosky: Forgive my spelling in Ogidi we call Hausa "alakuba" I'm not sure if it's spelled that way. I know in Imo and some other parts of Igbo paradise it's arakuba. |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by Nobody: 4:21am On Feb 13, 2008 |
It's called alakuba in Imo and abia too but it refers to moslems not Hausas. Hausas are called ndi awusa |

to the poster, let me borrow the words of darfur. Ebelebe Igba |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by naijadiva2(f): 4:38am On Feb 13, 2008 |
debosky: it's not a matter of whether the language is cool or not. there are enough young igbo people that would love to speak igbo but they are getting no help from family and friends. and when they do try to speak, they get made fun of because they can't pronounce the words right. |
Re: Facts To Prove That Ibos Originate From Egypt? by OgidiBoy(m): 5:11am On Feb 13, 2008 |
nwando: My apologies, writing and reading in Igbo is something I'm not very good at. I thought romeo was Imo state that's why he spelled it arakuba. |
