In recent times, the intending bride’s father waives most of the requirements that ordinarily would be meant for him and his immediate family and request the intending groom to provide only the other items required in the first two sections. 1 Like |

The list given as Igbo list is exaggerated and seems to be peculiar to the girls family. 8 of my female relatives have married and the list is not much. I have however seen where they asked for some of the things she wrote. I've been to weddings in Nembe, Ikot-ekpene, Rumuji, Ngwa, Afikpo, Okrika, Oguta, Ohafia, Nnewi, Mbano, Mbaise and Ogwashi. They are all almost same thing except in some cases where boxes of clothes is required or penalty is required for some offense or sub-cultural uniqueness.. |

fellis: OP are you serious? That Igbo list looks so outrageous. I seriously hope the required items are not as much as the ones you mentioned there. Don't mind the mischievous poster. I know she isn't Igbo from the way she even arranged it. 1)Henenwenwa(Mother)- Basically clothes, headties and a pair of shoes. 2)Hennanwenwa(Father)-clothes, cap, staff, a pair of shoes and tobacco 3)Umuada-Drinks 4)Umuokoro- Drinks and Anara(Garden egg) List of. Items required for the occasion Palmwine, Yams, Kolanut, Seaman's, beer, malt etc And finally the bride price which is minute but monumental. Most times returned back to the inlaws with the father saying "Erejem nwam" which literally means "my daughter is not for sale". Like I said, there are modifications according to the Igbo group involved. For eample in Oguta, traditional marriage is done at night. In Ngwa, they could ask for money before you present each of the requirements. |
