Why do you feel you need a "masters"--so soon? undecided

Would you not like to work for some time before you go for your "masters"?

Everybody in naija is just crased about paper and degrees, it's not even funny. Imagine a final year student who's thinking of going for his/her masters but has no clue what area to specialise, and where does he/she look for clues? Nairaland; Wow! embarassed

I can't understand it maself. cheesy grin cheesy grin cheesy grin cheesy grin

What in the world will make anyone be thinking of a "masters" when you have not even worked in any specialty area to determine if that is what you want to do?  Like you said, this paper craze is a malady in Nigeria.  Over here, look at people like Larry King, Peter Jennings (R.I.P.), Bill Gates, Sean "Moon Face" Hannity and so on and so forth--all were college drop outs or had only a high school (secondary school) diploma and still made it in life with their hard work and God given talents.

Here on this thread, we have a typical Nigerian dilemma---you are about to graduate and you have no idea why you went to school in the first place. cheesy  Then you want to jump into masters--then Ph.d--and so on and so forth without ever specializing in any of the fields of study. To crown it all, you came to Nairaland with a bunch of people in the same boat to ask for advice?  I don't know if people just do not care anymore.  No sense of direction at all.

Na waa ooooooooooooooooooooooooh! grin

@poster
Please don't be annoyed--- grin---Go and sit somewhere and really plan what you want to do with your life.  I sincerely think you are drifting.  That is not a good feeling--never has been. kiss

Chai!  I love Nigerians!

No blame her abeg.

Naija job market is so competitive that people almost feel their first degrees are useless. sad

what areas of biochem did you enjoy in school? Tell us your own interests and then we'll see if that can be directed into a useful specialization.

You can be ma douche pot!  Boy! Am I ovulating too or what?   You know what that means if you have ever seen an ovulating Agenegbode pussy before.

Ehen jo!  Better person!  In fact the situation is terrible.  How can a country so blessed be so disorganized?  After studying a major course like Biochem--then you come out and start floating around while people who studied linguistics and edo studies are working in breweries and pharmaceutical companies. The only option this poster has is to just burst the whole programme since no where to work in Nigeria--or take up a teaching appointment.

There you go---

@poster--the only place you can end up is a masters in education. Hmmmmmmmmmmm! What a waste! sad

I just don't get it! undecided

you asked a question didn't you? you are getting replies,so why are you flying off the hook?

You have not graduated from what i gather. So why do you have to bother so soon about an MSC? Since you have a lab, what else do you want? Having a lab means you can also be an employer.
Getting an MSC soon after is really not ideal, especially if you do not know what you want to specialise in. You had better sit down, put on your thinking cap,and hold very crucial discussions with your older siblings if any. You may not get this on nairaland. This is your future too you know,so it'll pay off better if you are not in much of a hurry. I made lots of money over here without a master's degree you know. It's the same for lots of people too.
It's not just paper qualification that counts. That hardly counts anymore. Digest your first degree before you leap into another. If you want to be a lecturer, then you can even go for PHD after this.Degrees are gloated over if you want to venture into lecturing or any other academic field.
Re: Area Of Specialisation by Ezinwannem: 6:06pm On Feb 15, 2008
Yes, people here are all correct. You might even find out that if you work for a while after you graduate, you will not only find out what area to specialize but you might also find out that you dont like what you are do. So you might develop interest in another field,

Since you are in your last year, you should really think over it and know within the course you are studying the area that interest you the most.

Good Luck
