Some guys have infested that section with pornographic stuff.

Its very indecent for this forum, not even on the webmasters section.
I perceive that these guys are not Nigerians, they are likely to be promoters for these porn sites.

He cannot do this all alone.

But I must admit that, for me, Seun is a model to have put up something very interesting and interactive like this. This forum has changed my life. I have been able to relate with guys who are better than me. Its been very resourceful.

Problem is that when forums get too big , they tend to become quickly unmanageable especially if you have crappy Internet access like in Naija - and you are not being paid to do it anyway (google adsense rewards are notoriously paltry) .
Moral : If you're going to be able to sustain or make profit from forums best to find some solid sponsor. Just my 10 kobo.

what beats me is that, at least as far as I can tell, it is only the webmasters section of NL that is being hit with these porn site posts.

Makes you wonder how Seun and/or the spammers view webmasters and this section of NL

p.s. If other sections of NL are getting spammed as well, I stand corrected.

He did try it sometime back in December, I don't know how far that arrangement went but it won't hurt to volunteer.

The porn here are very likely to have been posted by spambots [spam robots]. He [Seun] has to manually remove the spam entries.
There is no hiding from the fact that he needs assistances. Its impossible for a single individual to police the entire Nairaland forum effectively.

I can knock together a similar forum to this in less than half a day, only I will have no time to maintain it . Why should I want to maintain someone else's web site for free ?

On the contrary sir . It is a fulfilling undertaking and I have made my contributions wherever I can . Indeed I used to have a program of installing OS scripts free for non-profits and I only wish I had more time . I have more than two dozen web sites to look after on a regular basis and just can't volunteer anymore time, thank you sir.

I will speak for myself on this:
I posted my first 6 or so sites for review here. Majority of the reviews were of the, "the site is so simple" variety. Now if it's once or twice, it would be okay but when it's a trend, why bother posting them when I know what the answer will be? Besides, I have a link to my website in my sig file and one can always go to my portfolio page from there. I am not going to resort to bulky and annoying animations for instance just to, "show dem wetin i fit do" or to butter my ego amongst my peers. Besides, having surfed from various cybercafes during a recent visit, I have concluded that there are things that will never feature on my sites that are aimed at a Nigerian audience.

If I were to venture speaking for others, especially those who are new to the game:
Most of the reviews are very abrasive to the point where the weak-minded, rather than take it, shy away altogether. Rather than say, "you might want to do something about that logo", you read a lot of, "that logo is crap!". Now, whose advice would you most likely heed?

Don't get me wrong, criticism is healthy and necessary. However, there is a way that it can be delivered such that it results in the education, as opposed to the miseducation, of the reviewee.

Again, I have spoken for the most part on my own behalf. Let others speak for themselves.
