cecegorz: Please allow me comment on the above. I wanted to comment so that other people would become aware of the state of things in IB space. Companies are still raising capital. IPO is not the only way through which firms raise capital. Many companies are into debt financing these days. If these were not the case, then boutique IBs would not be springing up here and there in Nigeria. To ascertain whether IB is on the decline, we need to check whether the industry is growing or dying in Nigeria. This is not completely a function of the number of IPO deals. There are other kinds of deals that IBs engage in. IPO is just one of them. Anyway, I somewhat agree that, on the average, salaries, bonuses and benefits have eased in the IB space..But as I said earlier, certain IBs still pay a premium to their analysts and associates. That is not something money conscious people would want to get themselves into. You have presented valid views, but I am afraid, you just spoke about outliers.. T22 4 Likes |

All these Telecoms!, Telecoms!! Do they really pay that well? I don't think so oh. I mean except for a few highly skilled positions where the employess actually negotiate their salaries regularly, the rest are placed on a structure very much comparable to the average bank. @OP apart from the Oil n Gas Industry, there are a number of other firms with maybe only one or two local facilities in Nigeria (Lagos, Abuja, Port et al) which very few people know about that pay quite well. Some of these can be found in Project mangaement, Advertising, Consulting and a few others. They are not always very known. Then there are FMCG that also pay well like P&G, Unilever, Nestle etc. |

Jarus: Investment banking used to highly rewarding, financially. Don't know whether it still is. Bankers are getting laid off everyday. No longer attractive. The industry is shrinking because of poor credit worthiness of Nigerian businessmen. |
