We will make Ghana ungovernable - NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it has picked intelligence that the national security is planning to arrest some party leaders over their ongoing protests.
Supporters of the party are staging series of protests as they challenge results of last week’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The party claims results in some constituencies were inflated by the Electoral Commission (EC) to favor President Mahama.
General Secretary of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John said the party will make the nation ungovernable if the security agencies attempts to arrest any of its leaders.
“If they make the wrong move by arresting any of our officers, they will know no peace and this country will suffer for that", Sir John said adding “we are not scared to be arrested but if they try to arrest any of us we will make this country ungovernable.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, John Boadu has condemned attacks on journalists by some aggrieved NPP supporters.
A number of journalists have been attacked by aggrieved supporters of the NPP since the EC declared the presidential results on Sunday.
Some supporters have accused the media of colluding with the ruling government and the EC to steal the verdict of the people.
John Boadu in an interview with XYZ News, said such attacks on journalists are unwarranted.

Oh Nigerians! This is a typical case of "misery loves company".

The opposition party has a lot of seats in parliament. They are not talking about war. They meant making it tough for the president and the leading party to get things done. The US republicans did it to Obama and his party in his first term. Ghana will NEVER sink low like your damn country.

Besides, air has blown over this and life is continuing as normal. The general public's opinion of the opposition has started to shift to whiny babies or sore losers. If the opposition continues on that route, it will only mess up their chances even further in 4 years. Isn't democracy great?

The election was fair and transparent. A winner was declared: http://results.ec.gov.gh/

PRESS RELEASE - TRANSMISSION OF ELECTION RESULTS

The Commission’s attention has been drawn to allegations that it has engaged the services of a company to do electronic transmission and collation of results on its behalf. We wish to state emphatically that no such engagement has been made, neither is the Commission doing electronic transmission of results.

The Commission wishes to inform the general public that the transmission of results to its Head Office follows a clearly laid down transparent process.

We wish to remind the public that ballots are counted openly at the polling stations and the results are signed by the agents of the parties, who are given copies of the signed results. The signed copies of the polling station results are then sent physically to the constituency collation centres, where collation of results is done in the presence of agents of the parties.

At the end of the collation, the party representatives again sign and receive copies of the constituency results sheets. Copies of the signed declaration of results are sent to the Regional Offices of the Commission, from where they are faxed directly to the Operations Room of the Commission.

The public is informed that currently there are representatives of the parties in the Commission’s operations room who are receiving and checking the results before endorsing them by signing. Indeed, copies of the results are made for them before a copy is sent to the Chairman of the Commission for his signature.

In some instances, party representatives in the operations room have called their agents in the constituencies to cross check the result before signing them.

The procedure for the transmission of election results to the operations room is therefore thoroughly transparent and does not lend itself to manipulation.

The Commission wishes to reiterate that election results are signed and sent by fax and no company has been engaged for any such undertaking.

We wish to assure the nation that we will continue to use the transparent and verifiable approach of transmitting results and further assure that no results can be manipulated.

DR. K. AFARI GYAN
CHAIRMAN

Umunede: This is just a statement. What do you expect to hear from EC before?

The elections 4 years ago (and before that) was refereed by the same EC. The score was closer and that triggered a re-vote. NDC won it. The opposition (headed by the same flag-bearer) won only 2 regions out of 10 and conceded.

Fast forward to 2012, four years later.

1) The process was refined and fine-tuned.

2) Biometric verification was introduced to curtail election fraud. This system was even championed by the opposition.

3) Voter awareness and education had risen. Children who are not even of voting age could sing campaign songs word for word. Our sense of civic duty and pride grew.

4) The election was held and the only hiccup was the biometric verification equipment that delayed voting in a few areas. Those affected polling stations could have gone back to manual verification, but they didn't. Looking back, I think that was a good decision. Nevertheless, everyone who really wanted to vote had a chance to do so.

The opposition again won only 2 regions out of 10, with a vote deficit of about 300,000 but this time they cry foul. Why?

I personally didn't vote for any of the two leading parties, but I felt the election was fair. With the upgrades done to the process, it would be almost impossible for a party to steal 250,000+ votes, without detection while voting was still happening, in order to change the outcome.

Bottom line, the winner run a strategic campaign. They even bused some their supporters to the polls in comfortable buses. They had a game plan when they selected their flag-bearer and running mate, and that paid off.

Finally, look at the total number of reject votes -- 251,720. Votes are rejected due to any number of reasons. Some ballots weren't filled out. Some have multiple candidates elected. Most of those rejected ballots could have been meant for the opposition. That could have narrowed the gap and triggered a re-vote again, but we'll never know.

He's guilty because he traveled? The president is also guilty because he has left the country? Has the opposition yet produced any proof that the EC (who also refereed the election which the opposition won back in 2000 and 2004) rigged this election?

The only way one can become the president of Ghana, by winning only 2 regions (Ashanti and Eastern) out of 10, is either by the gun or by crook. Actually, we can say it's 1.5 regions because they won by a narrow margin in the Eastern Region.

the alleged rigged result indicates that NPP won 2 out of 10 regions. Wot of d unrigged result. Also, it is not about region but about numbers. D alleged rigged result was won by 50.4% but u know as well as I do dat a victory of 49.99% would have lead to 2nd round and anything can happen from there

How do you know it was rigged? What proof do you have? You can't believe that happened because NPP said so. Where is your evidence?
Re: We Will Make Ghana Ungovernable - Opposition Party NPP by Abrantie: 7:14pm On Dec 13, 2012
If you believe it was rigged, then it was most likely rigged in the Ashanti region against NDC. May be NPP registered a lot of underage people to vote. That could be the only reason NPP thinks it can win the presidency with only a couple of regions.

That's a fair assumption, no?

NPP: We are not ready for court

The New Patriotic Party says it is in no rush to go to court to challenge results of the elections which they claim was rigged in favour of John Mahama.

According to Nii Ayikoi Otoo, chairman of the NPP legal committee, the party is still gathering evidence and would go to the Supreme Court to challenge the results when the party is convinced that it has enough evidence...

yeah, make your country ungovernable to please europeans who want to see africans running to the bush and killing each other.
Think a minute, what is a 10-year presidency compared to the lives of million of children, babies, women and men? If you start a war in Ghana with the help of Ouattara and the French, then you are as dumb as the freaking djoula people in Cote d'Ivoire who destroyed this country for no reason.
Keep in mind Nigeria is wrestling with its own domestic issues, this country cannot take floods of refugees. Also keep in mind the war is not over in Cote d'ivoire where patriots( main christians and southherners) are gearing up to get even with ouattara's criminal gangs. Where are you going to run to ? Togo ? yeah right ! This country is too small and it cannot handle millions of refugees. Not only that , the old rivalry between Olympio and Nkrumah is still in people 's mind and togolese have not forgotten what type of threat Ghana was to their country in the early 1960s. As people say <<Old demons have seven lives >>, you know. So wise up!

why dont you people just leave nigeria alone for gods sake? When we say we are giants, you say it is a lie. Why do we set example and influence other people and they dont have influence on us? Only one ans. The bigger one will always influence smaller ones, fact!

If we are rejecting election results, then its becos we are gaining more freedom. We are not ready to be fooled any more and the ghanaian people are also rejecting being fooled. This is a good thing.

We have also had good influence on the continent at large. We have the biggest influence on the continent than any one else not even those at the tip of the continent have had that much influence. Our culture is every where and no ones culture is in our land.
