G.O.O.D. Music is an American record label founded by rapper and producer Kanye West in 2004. "GOOD" is an acronym for "Getting Out Our Dreams". History 2004–07: Formation and beginnings Kanye West founded the label in 2004. John Legend and Common were the first to have albums produced by GOOD Music and have received seven Grammy Award nominations between them; Get Lifted (2004) with three and Be (2005) with four.[1] Consequence was signed in 2005 through a deal with Columbia Records. In 2007, Big Sean was also signed to the label. 2008–11: Signing new talent In 2008, West signed Mr Hudson after hearing his debut album (as Mr. Hudson and the Library), A Tale of Two Cities as well as Kid Cudi after hearing his respective work from Plain Pat.[2] In 2010, the label signed Pusha T, Mos Def, and Cyhi the Prynce,[3] who was signed in a joint venture with Akon's Konvict Muzik, with the departure of Tony Williams, followed by Consequence who left the label on bad terms. In 2011, the signing of Nigerian artist D'banj and fellow producer Don Jazzy, and a distribution agreement made with Island Def Jam Music Group followed. Big Sean's debut Finally Famous was the first album released by GOOD Music with distribution by Def Jam. In 2011, West signed longtime friend and hip hop legend Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest. 2012-present: Cruel Summer and Cruel Winter In Mid-2012, Kanye West signed former Star Trak/Interscope Records artist Teyana Taylor to G.O.O.D. Music.[4] In late 2011, plans were announced for a Spring 2012 release of a GOOD Music collaborative studio album, later announced as Cruel Summer.[5] It was to be accompanied by a short film. Produced by West's design organization DONDA and shot in Qatar, the film premiered at Cannes Film Festival. It was finally released late in the US on September 18 2012.
