If there is one thing that is clear about Rocket Internet, it is the fast and furious pace of execution, expansion and domination of any market they decide to play in. They take no prisoners. They know how to be in your face.


When they entered the Nigerian market this year, they started with Kasuwa.com, an online ecommerce site and then Sabunta.com, for fashion and accessories. In typical fashion, after testing the waters with Sabunta as a stand alone property and it didn't work, they closed it down and merged it with Kasuwa to give birth to Not long after, they launched Hellofood.com.ng, a food ordering business

Well the Samwer brothers-owned entity has come out with Kaymu.com.ng. Now Kaymu.com.ng is a combination of a marketplace, an auction site and a classifieds site; an ebay clone.

Kaymu.com.ng is headed by Lukas Zels. Before Kaymu, he was with Lazada, a Rocket Internet online retail entity, in Phillipines.

This is fourth Rocket Internet property in Nigeria. Hmmm..... I wonder how many more are in the pipeline within the next 12 months. Any discerning person would be expecting a Groupon clone, an online card payment site, a price comparison site and many more pretty soon. So I enjoin the likes of Sim Shagaya of Konga.com & Dealdey.com, and Naspers to watch out.
