Who Should Make Your 23 Man List For The Nations Cup? by honeric01(m): 9:51am On Dec 24, 2012 |
Come January 19th, the nations cup should be commencing. By 9th of Januray, the coach is expected to submit his 23 man list. We know nairaland is very popular in Nigeria and the world over and who knows, the coach could be a member of Nairaland reading comments posted on the sport board. If you're given the chance to suggest a 23 man list for the coach, who would you be picking and why? For a recap, here's the list of the 32 provisional man list again: (Take into notice that the coach can or may include or exclude any new or current player, so you're allowed to include/exclude just 2 players.). Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel); Austin Ejide (Hapoel Be’er Sheba, Israel); Chigozie Agbim (Enugu Rangers, Nigeria); Daniel Akpeyi (Heartland FC, Nigeria) Defenders: Elderson Echiejile (FC Braga, Portugal); Juwon Oshaniwa (Ashdod FC, Israel); Benjamin Francis (Heartland FC, Nigeria); Joseph Yobo (Fenerbahce, Turkey); Efe Ambrose (Celtic FC, Scotland); Solomon Kwambe (Sunshine Stars, Nigeria); Azubuike Egwuekwe (Warri Wolves, Nigeria); Danny Shittu (Millwall FC, England); Kenneth Omeruo (ADO Den Haag, Netherlands); Godfrey Oboabona (Sunshine Stars, Nigeria) Midfielders: Mikel Obi (Chelsea FC, England); Nosa Igiebor (Real Betis, Spain); Ogenyi Onazi (SS Lazio, Italy); Raheem Lawal (Adana Demirspor, Turkey); Obiora Nwankwo (Calcio Padova, Italy); Fegor Ogude (Valerenga FC, Norway); Reuben Gabriel (Kano Pillars, Nigeria); Rabiu Ibrahim (Celtic FC, Scotland) Forwards: Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow, Russia); Emmanuel Emenike (Spartak Moscow, Russia); Brown Ideye (Dynamo Kyiv, Ukraine); Victor Moses (Chelsea FC, England); Uche Kalu (Rizespor, Turkey); Bright Dike (Portland Timbers, USA); Shola Ameobi (Newcastle FC, England); Ikechukwu Uche (Villarreal FC, Spain); Ejike Uzoenyi (Enugu Rangers, Nigeria); Sunday Mba (Enugu Rangers, Nigeria) |

Here goes my 23 man list: Goalkeepers: Austin Ejide, Vincent Enyeama. (we do not need more than 2 goal keepers but they said it's a must we go with 3 o )so i add the 4th goalkeeper. Defenders: Elderson Echiejile; Joseph Yobo ; Efe Ambrose; Solomon Kwambe ; Danny Shittu; Kenneth Omeruo ; Godfrey Oboabona ( we have issues with the defence so i would like to see 7 defenders incase we need drastic changes.) Midfielders: Mikel Obi; Nosa Igiebor; Ogenyi Onazi; Raheem Lawal; Obiora Nwankwo; Fegor Ogude; Reuben Gabriel. (some of the attackers can join as midfielders too so no too much wahala here.) Forwards: Ahmed Musa; Brown Ideye; Victor Moses; Uche Kalu; Bright Dike; Ikechukwu Uche; Ejike Uzoenyi. (Shola should never be on the team if truly we are looking at building a team for the future.) 1 Like |

@honeric interesting list OK here's mine GK: enyeama, ejide any home based player DF: echejiele, yobo, ambrose, shittu(hope he decides to come to camp), kwanbe, oboabona, egwueke/omeruo(whoeever impresses btw the two) NB: if shittu turns down the invite then egwueke and omeruo enter MD: mikel, igiebor, onazi, Obiora nwankwo, rueben, ogude AK: ideye, emenike, musa, Moses, amoebi, ik uche, uche kalu(I watched him couple of times during our qualifiers looked decent just needs time and exposure) Starting xi: ejide(big size looks more composed than enyeama), yobo, ambrose, kwanbe, echiejele, rueben, mikel, igiebor, musa, Moses, ideye(unlike emenike is little bit more dynamic) sorry ik uche super sub for now. Note this line up is for tougher opposition eg CIV, Ghana, Zambia(4-3-3) Starting xi(2): ejide, yobo, ambrose, kwanbe, echejiele, mikel, igiebor, musa, Moses, ik uche, ideye. Note: for weaker opposition or risking to play attack (4-4-2) |

ayusco: @honeric interesting list OK here's mine Nice, but why did you then pick enenike if he won't even start in your 2 starting 11? |

@honeric picked emenike as back up incase of injuries loss of form. Ameobi yes he's getting on but I feel he would bring his team mates ala ik uche into play. Kinda like heskey for England some yrs back. Like u I agree he is not one for the future stop gap measure at best |

@Honerico, it will be suicidal to take only two keepers to nations cup. What happens if the first choice gets injured. Then you are left with only one keeper. When the only keeper left gets red-carded or gets an injury what will happen. You now send Michael Obi or Yobo in goal. Biko, do not opine like that. |

Well maybe i see the chances of goal-keepers getting injured very slim than that of players, i rather go with 2 goal-keepers than 3. Maybe you should let us have your own 23 man list. |

My first 11 should be Austin Ejide Solomon kwanbe Efe Ambrose Joseph yobo Elderson Echiejile Ahmed Musa Mikel Obi Reuben Gabriel Nosa Igiebor Victor Moses/Brown Ideye Ikechukwu Uche/Bright Dike For the double strikers, it all depends on how they perform during build up training. |

Blood_Shed: I notice people keep including Reuben Gabriel..... Well yes, he's a good midfielder who can pay in a defensive and offensive role, he's got the built of Olofinjana but faster and more precised than Olofin. He's also very good at scoring and can even play as a defender. almost an all-rounder player and yes he's a Nigerian league player (Kano pillars) |

Re: Who Should Make Your 23 Man List For The Nations Cup? by cashmentor(m): 1:48pm On Dec 25, 2012 |
honeric01: My first 11 should bei'm not against these eagles though.... Infact, i'm a die hard SE Fan, but, i don't and never trusted Keshi.... So i'll be wasting my time here naming a team for a Coach that already knows his ist Eleven.... Anyway i'll just name players i fell don't deserve to be in the 23 man team! Dike- don't deserve it at all.... Based on current form, Martins deserve that shirt.. Based on Commitment, martins is way ontop. Rabiu Ibrahim: i love that dude like a brother from another Mother, but He's far from fitness and i think Aluko ought to have his place..... |
