Our spirit is the organ that God has given us to embrace, discern, and manifest the pneumatic or windy movements of the Holy Spirit. Our souls were never equipped for this function!! The human spirit is the organ that gives residence, or is home to God’s Holy Spirit. The soul (pyche or Mind) is the combination of faculties that consists of the mind, intellect, will, and emotions. The soul performs rational and intellectual functions. Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul (psyche) and spirit( pneumatos) |

SOUL and SPIRIT are not the same. Soul is an invisible equipment that enable humans and other living creatures to function. Without the soul, the body cannot function. Unlike spirit, every individual possessed the soul and the extermination of the soul resulted to death of the physical existence. Soul is life and could be exist independence of the body. Our soul is our ideal world which is partly remain with us when sleeping and finally goes off at death. Spirit is external forces, guiding or influence our existence. Unlike soul, spirit manifested or working in many forms/ways. Emotions, Love, sorrow, anger, phobia etc are all spirit. Spirit is universal causation. I may be wrong though. |

Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul (heb. Nephesh) of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul (Heb Nephesh) that sinneth, it shall die. Ezek 18:4 Note very carefully that there is nothing in this text that warrants giving the word 'soul' an alternate meaning from the way it is used elsewhere in the Hebrew text. The passage, being neither symbolic nor allegorical, makes a direct statement that the soul dies. From this, any reasonable person should be able to conclude that if the soul can in fact die, then surely it can not be immortal. But someone is sure to say, 'Well, he wasn't speaking of the invisible, immortal soul here, but just that the person died.' But that is the whole point. When you use 'soul' to mean an invisible, immortal, part of a man, you use the word in a way the Bible never does. No matter how you choose to interpret the verse, no one can reasonably suggest that the 'soul' in this passage is immortal, because the soul that sins dies. To me it seems very puzzling that anyone could teach that the soul is immortal when the Bible is very clear that no one is immortal except God himself. You will search the Bible in vain for the phrase 'immortal soul', and as we will show, it is only by reading a preconceived idea back into the text that such a teaching can be manufactured CO EXISTENCE BEYOND DEATH? The teaching of the immortal soul declares that every man has a conscious continuous existence after the death of the body. Most Christians assume that this is clearly taught in the Bible, but careful study shows exactly the opposite. The passages which teach that no part of man is immortal and that death is unconscious nonexistence are clear and plentiful. On the other hand, the teaching of the immortal soul relies on a few proof- texts which are never explicit in teaching this doctrine. Let's examine some of the clear statements of scripture regarding the state of the dead. For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Eccl 9:5 If some conscious part of a man survives the death of the body, then how is it that according to the Bible, the dead know nothing? This verse is in harmony with what we have learned so far; that man as a living soul ceases to exist at death. Faced with such a clear teaching as to the state of the dead, it is no surprise that commentators will go to great lengths to show that the verse does not really mean what it so clearly states. An example of this can be found once again in the Dake's Annotated Reference Bible. Commenting on Ecclesiastes 9:5 Dake says: |

If some conscious part of a man survives the death of the body, then how is it that according to the Bible, the dead know nothing? This verse is in harmony with what we have learned so far; that man as a living soul ceases to exist at death. Faced with such a clear teaching as to the state of the dead, it is no surprise that commentators will go to great lengths to show that the verse does not really mean what it so clearly states. An example of this can be found once again in the Dake's Annotated Reference Bible. Commenting on Ecclesiastes 9:5 Dake says: 'This is true so far as the body is concerned. They do not know anything, and they are not conscious in the least, for they came from dust, and return to dust; but the souls and spirits of all men are immortal and continue in a full state of consciousness between death and the resurrection of their bodies...' pg. 673, col. 4 There is nothing in the text that even remotely allows for such a conclusion. Presented with a plain statement that the dead 'know not anything', Dake makes a liar out of God and insists that part of the man doesn't know anything, but part of him (the real man in their view) still does. The respected creationist author Henry M. Morris, in his Defender's Study Bible has this to say concerning Ecclesiastes 9:5: 'This does not mean that there is no future life or consciousness after death, but only that nothing more can be done to earn heavenly rewards...' pg. 708 We have to ask; What is it in Ecclesiastes 9:5 that causes men such as Dake and Morris to state the exact opposite of what the text says? Clearly this text will not square easily with the teaching that men are conscious after death. Passages such as this are often ignored by proponents of the immortal soul theory but why? We can observe the same pattern when considering Psalms 6:5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks? Ps 6:5 If in death there is no remembrance of God, then how can someone be in conscious existence with God? Dake however, once again insists that a person can: 'Death claims only the body, not the soul and spirit which are immortal. It is true that dead bodies do not remember God, but the soul and spirit are not dust and continue in consciousness after death to the body.' ibid. pg. 550 col. 4 In direct contradiction to God's statement to Adam that 'Dust thou art', Dake insists that only the body is meant, and man goes on living. The fallacy of his comments on Psalm 6:5 should be obvious, for if only the body is meant, then the verse is unnecessary, and entirely without meaning. It is obvious that dead bodies do not give God thanks. The thought of the verse is than in death, men can not, and do not remember God or give him thanks. |

A man is a living soul because of the gift of life within him ( spirit ). when he dies, this gift returns to God and the MAN to the ground where he turns back to dust. "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return." - Genesis 3:19 If you notice the underlined , it says YOU ARE DUST , not YOU ARE DUST, SOUL AND SPIRIT. Let's stick to scripture. MAN without the life of GOD is as dead as a DODO. 1 Like |

@Ymodulus, why jump into conclusion that I was strong? Get your fact right,no one on earth can give precise answer to what poster was asking. Back to your subsequent posts. What you were trying to say is that, the soul actually died and cannot live independent of the body. Gen 2:7. And the Lord God made man from the dust of the earth, breathing into him the breath of life: and man became a living soul. This shows that soul is external and therefore exist independent of the body. Spirit is universal causation and it's upon it that everything exist were based. Gen 1:2. And the earth was waste and without form; and it was dark on the face of the deep: and the SPIRIT of God was moving on the face of the waters. This also shows that spirit is external forces and totally different from the soul. Besides, will you please explain the concept of dream? That's, what is dream? why do we dream? What do we call our reflection in the dream? What actually cause the dream? |

Jezuspoa: how can you explain hebrews 4:12Hebrews 4:12 New International Version (NIV) 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Mr there is no place in that verse that conotes immortality of the soul. infact the bolded went on to support the mortality of the soul. cause i dont know how a sword will cut someting immortal. or have u seen it? 2 Likes |

Reyginus: D-sage is right who made you a judge? Which D sage is right? Can you come and use the bible to show me how your demonic immortality of the soul is now a bible teaching? You should be ashamed for supporting an unscriptural teaching that support what satan had told Adam in Eden that Adam will not die while God had said Adam will die. Immortality of the soul is unscriptural, it is a lie statement that is meant to say that man keeps on "living even after death" like satan has said. You should better start having the fear of God and his word. Please come and show me where the bible says the soul is "immortal" because i know where the bible says the soul is mortal. 1. The spirit = the force of life 2. the soul = the life that came to be as a result of the action of the spirit on the body. The soul is the life of the entity sustain by the spirit like electric current sustained the light in an electric bulb, when the current goes out the light(soul) dies out, when the current comes back the light lights again. The light does not and cannot exist independently without the current. "His breath goes out, he return to the ground, in that very day his thoughts do perish." (Psalm 146:4). |

truthislight:Oh mr truth. My bad. Maybe I should have indicated the part of his post I agree with. My comment would have been, 'D sage is close'. From Post number 3, I agree with everything except: 1. The soul exists independent of the body. This is wrong 2. The spirit is expressed as emotions, anger, hate etc, and an external force. This too is wrong. Mr truth, where did I agree the soul is immortal? We're working from Post 3 only. Btw, my opinion does not equal to judgement. |

Very interesting. Maybe we should bring in soul travel, because some claim the soul can travel outside the body, or is it the spirit now? And what happens when we dream - is it that our soul travel or we just immagine things? For people in occult, when they go for meetings, is it their soul or spirit that travel? I don confuse even, bows out. . . |

@truthislight, did you even read my previous posts at all? I gave two different bible verses (Gen 2:7 and Gen 1:2) respectively to back my assumption. Like I said earlier, what we're saying here is just an assumption. Nobody, not even Socrates,Plato,Aristotle,St Augustine or Hegel can give right answers to the question of soul and the spirit. I'm happy you agree with me that SPIRIT is forces while the SOUL is life. Besides, the bible verse you gave does not invalidate the immortality of the soul. If I may ask according to your referred bible verse, where does his breath goes to? |

And what happens when we dream - is it that our soul travel or we just immagine things? That was why I asked "Ymodulus" some few questions about dream, but he run. I'm still waiting for him anyway. Truthislight and Reyginus who later refused to accept the immortality of soul should also come out to explain the concept of dream. Note; please, my own immortality of soul does not tantamount to rising of dead in the heaven or hell. |

D sage: @truthislight, the breath from hebrew "ruach" or from greek "pneuma" or spirit is from God. The breath/force that sustain the life/soul is from God. The same breath sustain animal and man. The spirit of God is use for many other things that God does. This animating force/spirit belongs to Yahweh. The spirit of Yahweh does whatever Yahweh wants it to do. That force belong to God and as such it is said that it goes back to its owner God. It goes back to God in that the hope of life of that person ever again can only be determined by the giver of the spirit, God. |

D sage: the concept of dream can be : 1. Stored info in our mind being relayed due to our unconsciouse/consciouse imaginations based on our concerns and fears. 2. Infusions of information from spirit forces into our minds. The mind is part of the brain, having to do with our stored experiences and knowledge. This ^^^ directly determined our likely cause of actions in life. If spirits infused info into your mind that is what you may play out by action |

Re: What Is The Difference Between A Soul And Spirit? by Nobody: 9:00am On Dec 31, 2012 |
Very simple The body is made of dust molded in the image of God(does not necessarily mean God looks exactly like man). This body houses the soul which is the real YOU.The soul is being programmed by God(the creator) with mind and free will to do whatever it pleases .The spirit is Gods breath that makes the body alive to be able to carry the soul around and interpret what ever the soul instructs. When a man dies,it means the spirit is taken away from the body and it returns back to God.The body becomes dust and the concious soul moves out of the body and wait for judgment(giving account of all its activity on earth). The soul either goes to heaven or hell after judgement. |
