In a bid to reduce the unemployment rate in the state and also boost food and cash crop production, the Niger state government has said it will engage not less than 10,000 unemployed youths in farming this year. To make a success of the programme, government is to clear 6000 hectares of land which will be shared to the beneficiaries of the ‘back to land’ scheme in the 25 local government areas of the state. The Commissioner for Planning and Deputy Chairman of the State Economic Committee, Idris Ndako who disclosed this in Minna today while giving details of the 2013 appropriation law already signed by Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu. He said government will also strengthen the state tractor hiring scheme to put it in position of serving both the new set of farmers and other farming communities in the state. Similarly Ndako submitted that the irrigation schemes at Lioji town and others around the state are to be revived to provide facility for all year farming. The Commissioner said the government will partner with the Federal government in the rural road construction programme saying that 200 kilometres of rural roads will be constructed in the 774 wards of the state which he said will provide easy access for movement of agricultural goods and services. http://dailytimes.com.ng/article/niger-state-engage-10000-youths 1 Like |

There are too many restless youths in the country. It is time the leaders start to engage them in something. The real wealth of a nation is its citizenry not just the educated citizenry only. |

superior1: Another conduit for siphoning public funds So....the scheme should be cancelled because you think is conduit for siphoning? Purge your mind of evil and see the positive side of it, to engage the youths. This is one of the reasons they are ready recruits for Boko Haram, joblessness! |

Where I am there are caterers that look decent than doctors in their dresses. Just say you admire everything dirty for those who are not in professional jobs. That is not a good way to go! |

POSITIVE START.THIS IS WHAT NORTHERN GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE ENGAGED THEMSELVES DOING LONG AGO.IMAGINE 30CL OF SOYA MILK FOR N150 FROM MALAYSIA OR SINGAPORE WHEN IN THE SAME STATE LOCALLY MADE SOYA MILK WHICH HAS MORE NATURAL TASTE AND QUALITY WITH MORE THICKNESS AND QUANTITY GOES FOR N20 - N30.THE NORTH MUST KNOW THAT RESOURCE CONTROL WILL BE TO THEIR ADVANTAGE IN THE LONG RUN IF THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT GOD HAS ENDOWED THEM WITH.INFACT,PROFESSOR PAT UTOMI ONCE SAID IN 2006 THAT THE RICHEST ZONE IN NIGERIA IS THE NORTH WESTERN REGION BECAUSE OF THEIR MINERAL RESOURCES.THE PROBLEM HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE LEADER THAT WILL STOP LOOTING AND INVEST IN HUMAN RESOURCES AND TAKING AGRICULTURE ALONG.JUST LOOK AT KOGI STATE AS AN EXAMPLE,WITH AJAOKUTA ALONE IT CAN GO PLACES.NIGER,KOGI,NASARAWA,KADUNA AND KWARA STATES HAVE NOT EVEN TAKING OPPORTUNITY OF ABUJA CITY CLOSENESS TO INVEST IN THEIR RESPECTIVE STATES RATHER MASS EXODUS OF THEIR CITIZENS TO ABUJA BECAUSE THEY HAVE FAILED TO PROVIDE BASIC AMENITIES TO THEM. GOD BLESS NIGERIA. 1 Like |
