Newcastle striker Demba Ba’s move to Chelsea is set to be finalised today (Thursday), so long as he passes a medical, according to reports from The Mirror. The Senegal international was thought to be close to securing a move to the Blues earlier this week, however there was a breakdown in negotiations between the player and club. However, the transfer appears to be back on, with the Blues keen to draft in a striker following Daniel Sturridge’s £12m move to Liverpool. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew admitted that Ba’s move is all but completed, and wished the player well in the future: “It’s done. He will go to Chelsea with our blessing,” he told Sky Sports. “He has done fantastic for us and it’s not a bad thing, all the uncertainty is now done and we can move on.” It was rumoured that the 27-year-old’s wage demands deterred Chelsea, but they are reportedly now willing to pay the striker £80,000- per-week. Although terms have been agreed, the deal may not be finalised due to fitness concerns surrounding Ba. Before joining Newcastle, the hit-man was rejected by Stoke, who were concerned by the condition of his knee. However, he remained fit and, largely, injury free last season, netting 16 goals in all competitions. Ba initially moved to England in 2011, joining West Ham from Hoffenheim on a pay-as-you-play style deal. Despite the Hammers suffering relegation the striker was impressive. Due to a clause in his contract he was able to leave the London club for free, tempting Newcastle to swoop for his signature in the summer of 2011. |
