The guy might have a bloated self image and might have lost out in a power tussle, but he raised VERY good points.

Why is it so hard for media infrastructure to be addressed in this country, knowing fully well that we have lots of musicians and actors that will surely patronize it.

Why was a solid idea as HiTV allowed to go bust, it was such a powerful initiative with brilliant potentials.

At least rather than studying for an MBA, peeps with Theatre Art, Music and other Art degrees will have a place to advance their careers in Nigeria without having to go to SA or other western countries, spinoff companies can be formed, yahoo boys might learn cinematography plus Nigerian upcoming actors will have a readz made environment to grow.

Also, its terrible how some folks on here find it hard to read long articles, but will finish 3pages of gossip news in minutes.

i don't watch nollywood but i read thru the entire article and i realized that this man is raising some genuine issues!
the future of nollywood [if any] is at stake here - south Africans are busy taking over all the profitable business in Nigeria.

here see this quote

As you can see, the investors in the movie industry (Bayowa Films, Remmy Jes, Kas Vid) have been run over by the TV houses, no thanks to some of my colleagues. Nollywood has been taken over and it is evident.

and this

Nollywood now exists only on Africa Magic, owned by South Africans. Meanwhile, while we were struggling to put the industry together, they (South African investors) were not around, but now they show our Nollywood movies and play their country’s soundtrack. They go as far as try to bring up their new faces and play him up with a silly star and try to create a somebody out of him. That way they are building their stars, Jacob’s Cross, Tinsel and so on.

how do Africa Magic pay our actors for their films they play on their TV channels everyday!

Now there is no more Infinity Merchandise, P. Collins, O.C Affassons and other big names we knew in those days. Places where Nollywood movies were readily available, like Idumota, Oba Iweka road, and Pound road, Aba have been shut down, leaving only Alaba in existence. Alaba; a place we all, as an industry, tried to close down.

valid point!

Before you say jack, our actor will have to go to SA and do obeisance before getting a role in to play in Nigerian film.

There is problem in nollywood!

Nollywood ko; Zombiewood ni. Who watch that kinda mumu movie, production, characters this days?
Mum plays nollywood movie to purnishing me whenever i go against her rules...cos she knows the sh**t(Zombiwood) makes me wana trowup
The problem with Nollywood is that they tend to teach morals all the time and its getting booooring, watch films like, casino royale, salt, avater and get glued to your TV not some mumu people Zombeing to and fro like robot. Most you tell us that somebody who robs a bank must be killed by AMADIOHA over and over again? Most you keep telling us that someone who divorced his wife will eventually end up with a bad woman? . Most of this (so called bad things) happens and the people involved lived happylyever after. Make a sensible movie and people will patronize you, and not one were one bottle of mcdowel's drink will be used throughout the scene yet the film is titled SHAYO. Smh abeg. I dey vex

1st of all
the guy should shut up about the foriegner's highjacking the movie industry, business is like a boxing match; it is either you throw punch's or you recieve punch's, so i dont blame them for capitalising on our weakness (if they did) cos most of our soap operas proir to Tinsel and the so called Jacob's cross were nothing to write home about, we would have done the same thing in another country if the opportunity present's it self or not(spirit of the Nigerian nooo niii), so he should'nt use that as a yard stick to vent his fustration at not getting his shear of the foriegn cake, rather he should focus all his attention at hermonising the AGN house that has'nt known peace since inception.
Secondly,
it is widely believed that were thier is a will thier is a way, 5 million naira for a producer that is realy serious and confident about the film he or she is making i believe should'nt be too much, cos if it realy is as he say's, too much; how many producer's have come out to air thier fustration over the high demand? I've seen good movies now more than before, though the movies might not be as much as before, but at least they have more quality than before.
On the issue of most of our movie houses closing down, well i believe if they were that relevant and influencial in the industry, a foriegn company would'nt just come and kick them to the back stage; and considering the fact that most of the film's they promoted then preached nothing other than cultism, immorality and high level of stupidity, i dont think the movie lover's in Nigeria will miss them that much.
And lastly Emeka Ike should stop thinking too highly of himself, and start thinking of way's to warm his self back into the heart of the people, cos i dont think they love him as much as he say's, at least i know i dont; i never did.

GBAM! GBAM!! GBAM!! I keep saying it on this forum, Nigerians are ready to accept anything that's bestowed upon them just cos it doesnt affect them directly. Nobody seems to care about the next man as long as it has nothing to do with them, and until there's unity in this country thing's will continue to fall apart. The man is obviously making sense and just cos he doesnt accept the status quo people think he's bitter. SMH @ all these suckers

Make some money for yourself. Think of a good story for yourself, partner with a Theatre expert to develop a script. If its as good as Casino Royale, you will make good money from it.

Don't complain, make money.

Well. The dude may be right in some aspects but saying that the South Africans killed NW to promote TV series doesn't sound intelligent enough.
Hollywood has an ever increasing series but they never took the shine off movies.
Besides, it is only recently that I see Nollywood movies advertised at the cinemas, though I'm yet to see one but I'm sure other folks do. Back in the days of Emeka Ike, the production quality were never good enough for the big screen.
P.S. He means that those big time producers of the 90s are now outta jobs? Remy jes? Ossy Affasson? Kas vid? Who would have thought? #strangelife

I remember filming this guy when they launched the Actors Guild of Nigeria (London Chapter) he was a complete jerk then and is now a bitter, grumpy ol' fart. He was so arrogant that the then Acting High Commissioner, Nigerian HC made up an excuse of having a meeting and left the event.

Young people were asking relevant questions and all that was important to him was shouting "You're a small boy, how many films have you made?" #Re-tarded!

Now that I've calmed down, who said he raised valid points? What points? Sitting down waiting for the return of the 'glorious' days of Alaba & Idumota film industry? Simple fact - Make something good and get it into the cinemas; and if you can't make something good then zip ya teeth! Nollywood has moved on and will keep on moving on.

Hisssssss, what a cry-baby!!

Some fools in this house are regularly depicting ignorant and imcompetent backside. I'm not supprised you could not read his interview.

Case in point, Emeka is making a valid point and as a patron, employee, stakeholder or whatever you wish to call him in the industry, he sure is in a better position to say it how it is. He is not a hungry man like most of you would suggest. He has successfully invested his money and comes shot of any unbiased conviction to typified the movie industry the way he did.

Some of you are regularly adrift of reality. The daft ones would soon say i'm his PR go ahead and express your foolishness.

I read through the interview, the main problem is one nigeria.

nigeria is a country that is totally not organized.

Also piracy is heavily killing the film industry and the government is not ready to stop piracy.

nigeria is an unfortunate country.

He was a bit arrogant in delivery but the guy threw up some valid points. I know its all about business but governments all over the world take delibrate steps to protect local interests. Our movie makers would some day begin to go to SA and get clearance before they put together movies for the nigerian/ international mkt. This is nollywood we are talking about. If the government can't help them in developing internal capacity they should at least help protect them from exploitative tendencies from SA.

Unfortunately, no tears for them in the so called Nollywood. It was never a sustainable enterprise as they never had proper structures in place. It was just an enterprise that provided quick and easy money to a very small group of producers and actors/actresses but as they lined their pockets, they didnt think it was neccessary to put a proper organisation in place, so mediocrity was the order of the day and no enterprise survives long term on mediocrity.

Nollywood was hyped up; They were ranking themselves wt Hollywood and Bollywood...Jokers!; Actors/Actresses were living expensively; Soft Cell magazines were magnifying them and their heads went on a spin unaware that a simply organised venture will bring them down like a pack of cards. (Reminds me of the 3 little pigs and the wolf)

Right now, its even more difficult for them to bounce back because the never had structures in place. If you doubt it, go look for a music track that came out abt 3 years ago titled "Waka Pass". It summarises legacy Nollywood. Sorry, RIP

Well said! We don't ever think of the future; it's always "Wetin we dey chop now, now, now. Let Nigeria keep on never planning long-term and then cry when 'others' see a future in something.

Nollywood practitioners are their own greatest enemies. They are greedy to a fault and that is what fuels piracy. How can they split a short film into four or six pats and expect their consumers to keep buying them? It' annoying. Any alternative is welcome

Won't his points be valider if he took the Government and the Nollywood higer ups who allowed foreigners to sweep and take charge of Nollywood to task instead of blaming the foreigners?

If you open you mouth and fly enters. . .is it the fly you blame?!!
