Well, I don't know some of these guys but it's a good start. I wish them the best. Atleast we have home-base players in the squad.

But we never had such striker for years now and presently there is no single Nigerian gangling striker any where, just as we don't have any ball juggler like J.J. So no need to cry about what we don't have.

But we do have pacy and potent forward line who may hurry defenders into error.

Let's support this team!

The NPL is the only league in the world that has 15 year olds making up majority of the players.

Add 5 to 8 years to the ages of most of these players and then you have their real ages.

So the average age of our players would be anything from 28 to 31. That can be an asset if the players are ones that have experience. Nah! Majority of ours have little experience and pose like little boys.

GBAM. TRUE TALK. A COUNTRY of corrupt values; we can't even put up a honest team with at least 50% stating their true age, that shows how terrible we are as a nation

Old cargos and tired legs!!!! I pray there is a miracle for Nigerian Eagles to make headway in this tourney. Goodluck.

Abi.

When we were celebrating useless u-17 and u-20 glories with players all of us know where blatant cheats, we did not know one day it will come and bite us (a country morally bankrupt) in the butt. Some were rejoicing and even willing to argue the unarguable on NL. They called it "patriotism".

I have stopped watching or supporting Nigerian u-17 and u-20 teams for some years now because I am sick of seeing old men like Stanley Okoro parading themselves as 15. Where is the great Stanley Okoro now? How come Rabiu (the 17 year old next Okocha) can not even get a single game in any club?

I only support SE where we cannot cheat and u-23 where our cheating is really insignificant.

@Sagamite

I actually think the lack of any developmental plans for the kids is hurting us. Imagine if our players actually get better at 20, they can play on till 35. Drogba, Yakubu, Kanu, Weah, Song etc all played till their mid-30s (projected real ages) at the top.

The sad part of this lies is that our players don't learn anything when they are young and we get average stars. Imagine if Kanu or even Weah were raised in the Netherlands!

I still like our Super Eagles but I have noticed a new trend. . . Those guys raised outside Nigeria (Shittu, Dike, Moses, Aluko, Anichebe) play with a lot more zeal than the other 'home-grown' talent.

Even if they are 19 (3 years older), These guys can potentially play till 35-38. That's a plus unlike Mikel and Taiwo that were probably in their mid-20s when they played for under 17.

Those guys scored tens of goals during their qualifiers and if you see their game-play, you'd fall in love with anything Nigeria again.

How can our players learn something when young if they cannot get on learning programmes because fathers like us are claiming 15 and taking all the spots?

Of course we would end up with average stars, that is what people like me have been screaming for years and people would say "you are not patriotic" for not joining in the national lie.

Which of the Lawal are you talking about? do you mean Lawan? if yes, then can you help us with some clips of Lawan games?

You need to see how these boys rained in goals during the qualifiers, they conceded only 3 goals i think and scored more than 21 goals in the process. just look for some of their clips on youtube.

One of the basic things I would use to judge this SE team in the ANC is their set-pieces.

The depth our level of football fell to in the last few years was reflected in how poor we were in things like taking a mere corner kick.

Do we have any competent player to do justice to set-pieces? Nosa and Mikel are the only 2 players fit for taking set pieces, how many goals have we been able to convert for a long time now from free-kicks, corner kicks and throw-ins?

Persin no need special legs to take set-pieces especially corner kicks. It can be learnt and a coach should be able to get focus on it in training.

I learnt it and started taking them (corner kicks especially), so I don't see why professionals cannot.

Or even free kicks I find it disappointing that in all our national teams age grade and female teams included we have no specialist free kick taker I'm not talking beckham henry level just a descent bend it over the wall near the post type but no all we have is shoot to the heavens hit it against the wall

Eagles Pip Rotterdam In Friendly
…Dutch Coach Hails Mikel, Omeruo

The Super Eagles continued its buildup for the Afcon 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa later this month with an amazing display of attacking football to overwhelm Dutch side, Sparta Rotterdam 1-0, in Faro, Portugal on Saturday afternoon.
The game which was played at the Browns Sports and Leisure Club, where the Eagles are presently camped for the SA 2013 championship started on a cautious not for both sides, but it was the Eagles which featured Skipper Joseph Yobo pairing youthful Kenneth Omeruo, who was impressive in the heart of the defence, that seized the initiatives just five minutes into the encounter.

A combination of Efe Ambrose and Ahmed Musa found Nosa Igiebor at the edge of the box, but he blasted wide. In the 10th minute, Mikel Obi combined beautifully with Igiebor to free Emenike, but his shot was again wasted. Mikel again did a yeoman’s job in the 14th minute to send Emenike clear and he promptly tucked the ball into the net but Dutch referee for the game Wim Bronsvoort ruled it offside.

From then on it was one way traffic as the Eagles seized control of the game but Igiebor, Moses, Emenike and Musa somehow managed not to score and the half thus ended goalless, to the chagrin of Stephen Keshi, who thought his wards should have at least been two goals up by then.
The Eagles continued from where they stopped in the second stanza and in the 55thminute, Ambrose Efe combined beautifully with Musa, who dribbled his way into the vital area before laying the ball for bulky Emenike to riffle home for what turned out the only goal of the encounter.

After the goal Keshi made eight changes to his team with Ejike Uzoenyi coming in for Victor Moses, Gabriel Reuben for Mikel, Ike Uche for Emenike, Sunday Mba for Nosa Igiebor, Brown Ideye for Musa, Ogenyi Onazi for Yobo, Nwankwo Obiorah for Ogude Fegor and goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim for Vincent Enyeama.
The Dutch side did threaten a couple of times through dangerman, Donovan Deekman spotting number 11 jersey, but it was dealt by Enyeama and later by Agbim. Infact, they took only one straight shot at goal that was easily pick up by Enyeama at the start of the second half.
The Eagles continued their dominant play even with the changes but Ideye, Uche, Reuben and Mba failed to increase the tally, to keep the scoreline at only 1-0, after 90minutes.

Rotterdam coach, Michel Vonk, said he was delighted with the robust, attacking play of the Eagles, adding that if they keep it up they will go far at the Nations Cup. “Your team play physical and quick and at times they slow it down and before you know it they are all over you. I told my players that is what to expect and we were not disappointed. Their quality is very good”, he said.
The coach singled out Mikel Obi and Kenneth Omeruo for special mention. “Your number 10 (Mikel), is very good, creative and has good vision, then Omeruo, very good aerially and gives good cover to the keeper. Your team wasted a lot of chances, they must learn to take them at the Nations Cup and I wish them good luck”, he concluded.

Yeah, I am not saying after training, they would wake up and be David Beckham.

But selecting 5 players and teaching them the art of free-kicks, you might get one that would come close, in free-kicks, to Rooney.

We can't continue being a team that cannot capitalise on set-pieces like we have become and a good coach should know that.

But then, we can't be so sure that they are not made to do these in training, even at their various club sites, i just believe we do not have players cut out for stuffs like free-kicks.

Maybe corner kicks, but for free kicks, we haven't been lucky at all.
