Where Are The Powers Of Our Traditional Rulers? by Idriswhite(m): 8:19pm On Jan 16, 2013
Traditional rulers in the days of old lived and ruled without fear from any angle. They lived up to their titles i.e Kabiesi(the one whom no one can questioned),alase ikeji orisa(the second in command to the gods) etc. They worked indefatigably to see that their kingdoms were progressing. Alas! It's so annoying how the powers of our traditional rulers diminished within a twink of an eyes. Most of the traditional offices and their occupants are mere shadow of old self. They just exist. There powers are gone. There mights dwindled so irritably that anyone of any birth could equal the monarch on sitting pedestral. Monarch of our time walk on road and passerby never stops for reverence. Their titles are now more of a mockery than the potencies it used to carry. Kabiesi can be questioned and even be removed from throne by government. Government now decides who becomes king and not the gods. With the these happenings,i wonder if our past monarches that are now resting in their solitary room will be happy at the diminishes of their thrusted positions

This is a good post. The kings have soiled their thrones through politics, corruption, treachery and debauchery. You remember Abacha era when some monarchs were flocking abuja to support illegal Shonekan interim government just for money. It is logical: when you wine and dine with falsehood, you loose the priviledge granted for sacred powers. Some kings are still strong spiritually. I can still say Alaafin of Oyo, Awujale of Ijebu and Osemawe of Ondo are highly didnified Kings who still enjoy intimacy with the Orisas due to their steadfastness when it comes to standing by the truth.
