A leap year is a year containing one or more extra days or weeks ,this is done in order to keep the calender year synchronised with the seasonal or astronomical year.for a lunisolar year you can have an extra month.so a day is simply intercalated in the calender to balance the calender with the movement of the earth.
A solar year does not have a whole day while a calender year does have.
