Third Mainland Crash: ‘I Was Not Speeding’ by ichomi(m): 1:49am On Jan 28, 2013
Olusola Oladimeji, the driver of the Toyota Sienna that fell off the Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon on Saturday, has described his escape as a miracle.

The father of three said contrary to reports by traffic and emergency officials, he was not on high speed when the incident occurred.

Oladimeji, who is a minister of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church, said he was on his way home from work.

He said, “I work on the island and I left home for a meeting in the early hours of Saturday. After the monthly environmental sanitation, I started driving back home.

“I was driving at the speed of 60km/hr and was on the fast lane because the road was free. At Ebute Meta bypass, I saw two vehicles that had been involved in an accident but I kept on driving. Suddenly, everything went blank, I couldn’t see anything again, and I just found myself in the water.”

Oladimeji said he did not lose consciousness in the water and as such, was able to loosen the seat belt.

He said in the water, he saw a ray of light and swam towards it.

He said, “I was not on high speed. When the car hit the railing of the bridge, the airbag was not released.

“After falling into the water, I unfastened the seat belt and noticed that one of the doors of my car had broken off, so I swam out of the vehicle to the surface of the water even though I don’t know how to swim.

“It was while I was waving my hand that fishermen saw me and quickly came to my aid. They took me away from the scene and took me to a clinic located on the water where they administered the first aid.”

PUNCH Metro learnt that Oladimeji was later taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where an X-ray scan was conducted on him.

“The doctors said that my leg was not fractured. They, however, cast my leg with Plaster of Paris because I had a sprain,” he said.

Oladimeji said contrary to what is written on his medical report, he is 43 years old not 53.

Our correspondent, who visited the Abule Egba home of the victim, observed members of his church came in droves to felicitate with him.

A pastor at MFM, Berkeley Parish, Mrs. Praise Onanuga, said the incident was an indication of the existence of God.

She said the victim had just bought the car eight days before the accident.

She said, “Brother Oladimeji is the leader of prophetic group and a house fellowship coordinator. He was supposed to have been at a vigil with us the night before but he begged to be excused because of the meeting he was to have on Saturday.

“He bought the car just eight days before the accident and we were supposed to do the dedication today (Sunday) but we thank God that we were not put to shame.

“We will hold a thanksgiving for him soon because this is a miracle.”

Maybe he fell asleep. By the way even if he was speeding it is very unlikely that he will admit it to the press.

Fatigue and sleeplessness ....

He cheated the enviromental laws and cheated death too..

Malfunctioning airbag system ( sometimes there is good in bad) saved him too..

Always funny to see people praising God and doing thanksgiving when they survive a ghastly accident - even though their vehicle ends up damaged beyond repair. However, had it been a minor incident where another driver mistakenly bashed their bumper, broke a rear light or side mirror, all hell would break loose. . .in some cases they would fight to death over a mere dent or broken side mirror. People need to get a grip.

how can you claim to be moving at 60km/hr and your car hit the railing and fell into the water? Those railings are pretty high and a sienna car is relatively low so is he saying one winch would have lifted the car over?? nna abeg the man was speeding jare and should admit abeg. Thank God for his life sha!!

ℓ☺ℓ,he's a mountain of fire pastor so there's no chance:

He fell asleep on the steering after all night prayers the previous night.

His eyes were turning cuz of hunger from too much fasting grin

He lost concentration after he saw the accident site.

There's no chance he still wasn't very good at driving his 8day old car.

He's a mountain of fire pastor so the fault must be from witches and wizards from his mother's village-fire burn them.

Witches and wizards from his father's village- fire burn them.

Spiritual wickedness in high places- fire burn them.

Blood sucking spirits on third mainland bridge- fire burn them.

That his pagan neighbour that swore pastor would never own a car- fire burn him.

All of them die by fire, fall down and die. Die die die die!!!

I thank God for his testimony.
HALLELUJAH.

My former boss Alhaja H.O. Shitta stopped driving, because she could suddenly go blank on the road.

SEE: What would causes someone to black out behind the wheel while driving? on http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080219135317AAkdZln

[size=18pt]CHECKLIST: What do you need to know?
A blackout is a temporary loss of consciousness

If someone loses consciousness for a few seconds or minutes, they are often said to have had a blackout.
Every patient presenting with an unexplained blackout should be given a 12-lead ECG (heart rhythm check)

It is important that the ECG is passed as normal.
Most unexplained blackouts are caused by syncope

Many people, including doctors, assume that blackouts are due to epileptic seizures, but much more commonly they are due to syncope (pronounced sin-co-pee) – a type of blackout which is caused by a problem in the regulation of blood pressure or sometimes with the heart. Up to 40% of the population will lose consciousness at some point in their life due to syncope. Syncope can affect all age groups but the causes vary with age, and in older adults multiple causes often exist.
Many syncopal attacks only require reassurance from your GP

Many syncopal attacks require only explanation and reassurance from a GP or trained nurse regarding the likely absence of anything being seriously wrong. Consultation with a specialist will be necessary, though, if the cause of the syncope remains uncertain or if there are particularly concerning symptoms or there is a family history of a heart condition.
There are three major reasons for why people may experience a blackout(s):

– Syncope: a sudden lack of blood supply to the brain. Syncope is caused by a problem in the
regulation of blood pressure or by a problem with
the heart.

– Epilepsy: an electrical ‘short-circuiting’ in the brain. Epileptic attacks are usually called seizures.
Diagnosis of epilepsy is made by a neurologist.

– Psychogenic blackouts: resulting from stress or anxiety. Psychogenic blackouts occur most often in young adults. They may be very difficult to diagnose. 'Psychogenic' does not mean that people are 'putting it on'. However there is often underlying stress due to extreme pressure at school or work. In exceptional cases it may be that some people have experienced ill treatment or abuse in childhood.
Misdiagnosis is common but avoidable:

Many syncopal attacks are mistaken for epilepsy.
However epilepsy only affects slightly less than 1% of the population.
UK research has shown that approximately 30% of adults and up to 40% of children diagnosed with epilepsy in the UK do not have the condition.
Many elements of a syncopal attack, such as random jerking of limbs, are similar to those experienced during an epileptic seizure.
It can be difficult to tell the causes of the blackout apart.

Syncope causes falls:

Syncope causes a significant number of falls in older adults, particularly where the falls are sudden and not obviously the result of a trip or slip.
Many older adults will only recall a fall and will not realise they have blacked out.
Greater awareness of syncope as a cause of falls is key to effective treatment and prevention of recurring falls.
