The 2nd Edition of the Abuja Young Entrepreneurs Award also known as the AYE Awards 2013 organized by Fusion Lifestyle Ltd, is out to celebrate enviable strides made by young Abuja based Entrepreneurs whose innovation and creativity have been shining examples of how Abuja is fast evolving into a city of energetic entrepreneurs rather than the numerous government workers it is known for. Young people are increasingly forging their own desitinies rather than choosing the safe option.

The generic definition of an entrepreneur is anyone who can identify viable business opportunities and create products or services that meet an identified demand. A Nigerian entrepreneur is someone who goes against the grain to take a risk despite the numerous threats and lack of opportunity in their environment. An Abuja entrepreneur builds on this definition, but more so.

Abuja on average cannot be described as a business friendly environment. With the high cost of living, various security threats and big business and government orientation to the economy, an entrepreneur in the Federal Capital City has to not only possess superhuman strength of will but have the unique ability to think out of the traditional box.

This is what makes Abuja's Young business adventurers a focal point to celebrate and encourage. The founder of the Abuja Young Entrepreneur Award, Dr Samiah Oyekan-Ahmed is a young entrepreneur herself, so she only knows to welll the importance of supporting and motivating this pivitol generation of boundary pushers.

These enterprising young men and women who have been nominated for the awards, have demonstrated innovation in providing products and services to Abuja residents and workers, despite the harsh and competitive business environment.

The AYE Awards organizing team defines a young Entrepreneur as anyone within the age bracket of 21 – 35 years as at the time of setting up their business. There are over 60 Nominees for this year's Awards in 12 Categories that include Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Health and Fitness, Media and arts among others.

In recent years key business services could not be accessed locally and many Abuja residents had to resort to traveling to Lagos or even overseas to enjoy these services, but a few young creative persons are passionate about getting these services to Abuja folks.

Now we have among the nominees Cupcake connoisseurs, Philanthropists and Humanitarians, Hospitality givers, Relaxation and Beauty experts, Digital Media Marketing specialists, Fashion and design trend-setters to mention a few. Abuja is a fast growing city with a demand for world class goods, services and entertainment catering to the teeming multi-cultural population.

Those nominated for this year’s awards are just a few among many great Nigerians with brilliant and creative business ideas. Abuja can evolve to be the city of our dreams but only if the young generation of business risk takers are celebrated and encouraged to reach giddy hieghts of success.
