Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has rewarded Sunshine Stars captian and Super Eagles defender, Godfrey Oboabona for his scintillating performance in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa which Nigeria won.

Mimiko at a dinner organised for the player at the Government House in Akure on Wednesday rewarded him with a sum of N1 million and a bungalow in Akure.

Mimiko, praised Oboabona who featured in every minute of the Super Eagles appearance for his heroic performance and for doing the state and Sunshine Stars proud.

“We are happy with what he did for the State. He showed that there are good players in Sunshine Stars and the Nigerian League and that is why we are honouring him.”

The Governor further urged the defender not to relent in his quest for greater achievement.

In his reply, Oboabona thanked the Governor for his kind gesture shown to him and also for the effective development of football in the state, which has seen Sunshine Stars of Akure become one of the best football clubs in Africa.

Oboabona one of the new revelations of the Nigeria Premier League, NPL is presently been courted by many clubs around Europe.
