The federal government has hinted that it would establish mega universities in Nigeria to solve admission problems being faced by students.

The FG said when built, the mega universities will absorb 200,000 students each, which will thereby tackle the menace of admission shortages being experienced by many qualified university students in Nigeria.

President Jonathan, represented by Vice President, Namadi Sambo, made this known on Saturday in Zaria, Kaduna State at the special convocation and launching of N50billion Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Phase II Development Fund at the school’s main campus in Samaru, Zaria.

He, however, didn’t disclose the number of such mega universities to be set up by the government.

President Jonathan expressed concern over the limited number of admission slots available for university admission seekers in the country.

Another demonstration of clueless cluelessness.
If a mega universities are established, who will be funding them? The universities that are existing are still being deficient of funding, let alone adding a bigger, heavier and larger burden on the nigerian university system.
The goverment wanna tackle the problem of admission into the universities forgetting there are still university products that have catastrophically outnumbered the labour market searching for what to depend on as a source of income. When the 0ver 100,000 students(cos the 200,000 students admitted will not graduate, not a curse anyway) from each mega schools graduate, is there any already existing employment provided for them?
Another problem our government refused to understand is that we can't all undergo the university training. Hence, why not empowering the polytechnics and colleges of education so as to reduce the number of candidates seeking for admission into the universities. We need sound teachers to take care and cook the primary and secondary students that will go for tertiary learning and competent technical manpower, hence, the need for sound colleges of education and polytechnics respectively.

I hope at the same time they are also establishing the industries/manufacturing companies that will employ them upon graduation.
