One of the frontrunners in the March 4 presidential election in Kenya, Raila Odinga, is not leaving matters entirely to chance—or the electorate. He has sent a two man delegation to the headquarters of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Stars in Calabar, SE Nigeria, reports The Guardian. The two-man squad is in Calabar to court Leader Olumba Olumba Obu’s spiritual support and favour to enable Mr Odinga win the race. Mr Obu is reported to have considerable presence and following in Kenya. Leader of the delegation, Joseph Abeng, a priest, said Odinga has a lot of respect for the spiritual leader and believes his prayers which had helped him in the past could do it for him once again.

Abeng said Odinga asked him to appeal to Leader Obu to pray and work for him the way he did for President Barack Obama. Mr Odinga, the serving prime minister, is facing stiff opposition from Uhuru Kenyatta, his serving deputy. Both candidates are neck and neck in the polls but some watchers tip Mr Kenyatta to win due to the ethnic permutations of Kenya which appeared to have determined previous elections.
