Picking Nigeria's Team That Could Mount A Serious Challenge At The Confed. Cup by Nobody: 4:23pm On Mar 03, 2013
After a first Cup of Nations victory in 19 years, and with ‘Big Boss’ Stephen Keshi committing his immediate future to the Super Eagles, confidence is high in Nigeria. And the super eagles will be looking to take their new found success to the Confederations cup in Brazil, come June. Imagine these 23 players making the list. I'm going to start with my preferred 11.
Goalkeeper: Vincent Enyeama
Arguably Nigeria's best shot stopper. Marshaled the youngsters at the just concluded AFCON, he barely got a foot wrong, Made several crucial saves, my favorite being the one against Ethiopia, little wonder he was named goalkeeper of the tournament.

Center Back: Kenneth Omeruo
Omeruo may still only be 19, and a place in the Chelsea first XI still seems a mile off, but he was one of the revelations of the Afcon, and rarely evidenced his slender years. Had a good partnership with Godfrey Obabona, which i feel is gonna be world class someday.

Right Back: Efe Ambrose
Criticized at the start of the tournament, Got a red card against Zambia, and missed the tie against Ethiopia, Ambrose proved his critics wrong by recording his best outing in a Nigerian shirt. Was named right back of the tournament.

Center back: Godfrey Oboabona
His Afcon performances may not have garnered the same headlines as some of the other squad members, but the defender has quietly emerged as ‘The Future’ for the Super Eagles defence—the national side look set for years with the Sunshine Stars centreback in the heart of the action.

Despite arguably being at fault for Burkina Faso’s equaliser in Nigeria’s opening game, Oboabona was one of the tournament’s finest defenders. He delivered a masterclass in the quarterfinal where he silenced Didier Drogba and his Ivorian compatriots.
A move to Europe looks likely, and recent form suggests he may well be up to it.

Left back: Taye Taiwo
Arguably Nigeria's best left back, though he has being a fringe player in the super eagles of late,While Braga’s Elderson performed admirably at the Cup of Nations, particularly in scoring a delectable header against Mali in the semifinal thrashing, i would very much love to see Taiwo in that squad. Like Celestine Babayaro before him, he is threatening to become another Nigerian left back who shone as a youngster only to fade away as complacency replaced promise. His terrific dead balls could add something to the Nigerian squad

Midfielder: John Mikel Obi
The super eagles midfield would never be complete without John Mikel Obi, should have been named AFCON Player of the tournament after an astounding performance at the cup of Nations. He silenced Yaya Toure in the quarterfinal, demonstrating resiliency and composure, while also weighing in with some delicious passes and offering immense creativity.

Midfielder: Lukman Haruna
Played well at the 2010 world cup in South Africa, Lukman Haruna is starting to get back to his best, while also putting on some decent performances for Dynamo Kiev. I believe Haruna has what it takes to make him a world class player in the future. And would be a great addition to the squad.

Midfielder: Joel Obi
If it were 14 months ago, Joel obi would have been a shew in, in Stephen Keshi's AFCON plans, but recently loss of form and injuries, has stunted his development, which has seen him concentrate on rediscovering his talents rather than targeting continental glory with the super eagles. Just 21, Obi retains the potential to be a key player in this fresh, youthful Nigeria side.

Forward: Victor Moses
The Nigerian forward line would not be complete without Star man Victor moses, shone like a million stars in the just concluded AFCON, which saw him emerge as the samsung fair player of the tournament, Victor Moses has really come of age. From completing a 9m move to Chelsea, to becoming an integral part of Rafa Benitez's plans, and also becoming an African champion, Victor Moses has many bright years ahead of him. England's loss is Nigeria's gain.

Forward: Emmanuel Emenike
Wanted by Liverpool, Arsenal and even Manchester city, the Afcon’s top scorer, the Golden boot award was momentary compensation for missing the final through a cruel injury sustained against Mali. The Spartak Moscow striker made a terrific contribution over the tournament, combining well with fellow striker Ideye Brown to fire the Super Eagles over the finish line.
Goals against Burkina Faso and Zambia in the group stage were crucial to his side’s progression, while his powerful strike against the Ivory Coast gave his young compatriots hope and belief.

Forward: Ahmed Musa
Made IFFHS's list of best 140 players in the world, Ahmed Musa has really come of age, Despite not performing to expectations at the AFCON, Musa has been doing great for CSKA Moscow, scoring 9 goals in 29 appearances, and contributing several assists, which has seen him become one of the key figures in Moscow's gaffer plans. I foresee the Jos-born youngster making a much bigger splash at the 2013 confederations cup in Brazil. Still only 20, but with over two years of experience playing across Europe, Musa has both the physical capacity and the technical ability to contribute to the Super Eagles’ effort as a starter. The prospect of he and Moses flanking Emmanuel Emenike in a forward trio could be enough to spread fear into oppositions’ hearts.

OTHER NOTABLE MENTIONS.

Brown Ideye, Osaze Odemwingie, Kalu Uche, Sidney Sam, Hope Akpan, Sunday Mba, Egwuekwe, Juwon Oshaniwa, Ogenyi Onazi, Victor Anichebe

CLT123: Sidney Sam over Musa
Ahmed Musa has got more pace than sidney sam... Sidney sam could be used as an impact sub, cos I've never seen when Ahmed musa played well as a sub.
