Other team news Tenger begs Governor Akpabio to rescue Akwa United The veteran coach opined that only a special intervention from the state government can turn their league season fortunes around Akwa United head coach Justin Tenger has beckoned on the Akwa Ibom Governor, Godswill Akpabio to come to the aid of the club. Tenger who made a switch to Uyo from relegated Niger Tornadoes said Akwa United has promising and very dedicated players that can take the state-owned club to desired heights but the government must cater for their upkeep and fulfil their contractual agreements if they are to be made happy. The coach in a chat with Goal.com opined that he was surprised his wards could put up the tantalising display they had against Enyimba in Aba last Sunday despite staying away from training for about three weeks to press home their demands to the state government. He confirmed the team was yet to be paid certain percentage of last season's sign-on fees and that nothing has been collected till date as regards this season. Coach Tenger said the season would be far from impressive for his side if the Akwa Ibom government does not wade in immediately to settle the outstanding money owed the team. "I really commend the boys because definitely Enyimba was fitter than my team. We had a lot of hitches somehow along the line. Our preparation has been very slow and shabby as compared to that of Enyimba so I'm very happy with the result and the way they played. "I will not boast much about having an impressive season because the preparation now in Uyo is very shoddy if I must confess to you. Shoddy in the sense that my players are yet to get anything that is due to them. They do not have anything to push them. They were on strike for three weeks and that is very dangerous for a team like this. They resumed training barely one week ago. "We have not heard anything from the government yet but we are appealing to the State governor to come to the aid of the team," Tenger said. |

Pre-match analysis by Dolphins FC media officer...... before the 1-0 win over Dolphins at the Uyo township Stadium!! NPL: Akwa United have the advantage As the long-awaited Nigeria Premier League 2012/2013 begins with week one fixtures this weekend, Dolphins FC media officer, China Acheru says home side, Akwa United have the advantage as both sides meet in the opening week of the Nigeria Professional Football League on Sunday in Uyo. Dolphins FC media officer China Acheru a.k.a Ikwerreman Though the media officer accepts that the target of the team is to get a result in that match, he also admits that it will be tough against the Uyo based team. “The team is preparing to go to Uyo and return with a result. The coach, Stanley Eguma has already said the team is going there to get a result and the General Manager has said so too. The players are also optimistic they could get a good result. “But we must understand that there is a strong rivalry between both sides that is due to the short distance between both states. Currently our former captain, Emah Godwin is with them and their former striker, Emem Eduok is with us,” Acheru said. “Then in the league last year we beat them 2-1 in Port Harcourt and lost 3-2 in Uyo. “Their current Team Manager, Joseph Eberefe played football for many years in Port Harcourt with Sharks so you can see that there is a lot tying us together.” The Dolphins media officer added that the “home advantage factor” is another that may work in favour of Akwa United and urged the newly constituted NPFL to look into that sad part of Nigerian football where home sides do all within their power including untoward things to win games. “We want to get a result in Uyo, but truth be told, Akwa United have a clear advantage over us. Home teams should not win because they are at home. They should win because they are the better side” |
