Elizabeth Martin, a Ph.D student in Missouri University's science department in the College of Arts and Science conducted a study to find that one's profile may indicate their mental health. Her research team asked participants to print and submit their Facebook activity, which was then correlated with their actual statements.

In a news release of the Missouri University, Matin says;

Therapists could possibly use social media activity to create a more complete clinical picture of a patient. The beauty of social media activity as a tool in psychological diagnosis is that it removes some of the problems associated with patients' self-reporting. For example, questionnaires often depend on a person's memory, which may or may not be accurate. By asking patients to share their Facebook activity, we were able to see how they expressed themselves naturally. Even the parts of their Facebook activities that they chose to conceal exposed information about their psychological state.

The results of the posts submitted by the participants showed their mental health. The people who do not post much on Facebook or may have less Facebook friends may show signs of social anhedonia which means that such people do not feel pleasure in interacting with different people, in other words they are loners and are happy with themselves. Some participants censored some of their activities showing signs of paranoia.
