Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been rested for Arsenal's Champions League last-16 clash in Germany.

Manager Arsene Wenger says the Pole has been "mentally affected" by the number of games he's had to play and he will be replaced by Lukasz Fabianski.

Midfielder Jack Wilshere is also missing with an ankle injury and defender Bacary Sagna is out with knee and leg problems.

Striker Lukas Podolski could miss the match because of an ankle injury.

Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and defender Jerome Boateng are banned and Franck Ribery is ruled out with ankle ligament damage.

Fellow winger Arjen Robben has a calf strain and faces a late fitness test.

Arsenal face the difficult task of overturning a 3-1 first-leg deficit when they travel to Munich.

The Gunners endured a miserable night at Emirates Stadium, where early goals from Toni Kroos and Thomas Mueller gave Bayern control.

Podolski pulled a goal back for Arsenal in the second half but Mario Mandzukic's scrambled third left Arsene Wenger's team needing to score three times in Germany to have a chance of advancing to the quarter-finals.

Wenger said: "We have to have a real go without being silly.

"We want to be positive but as well, be intelligent. We have to create doubt in their mind and you only do that by starting really strong.

"The chance you have comes if you make them insecure rather than the feeling of certainty they have."

Arsenal (provisional squad): Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Gibbs, Podolski, Diaby, Arteta, Cazorla, Walcott, Giroud, Mannone, Jenkinson, Rosicky, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho, Miquel, Coquelin.
