[b]All eyes still on Enyimba as Akwa Utd seek escape from Warri

The clock is ticking and doing so faster now towards the end of this Glo Premier League season. Five is the magic number for the next round of matches which will hold this midweek across nine different centres in the country, with one game postponed for national cause.
There are just five more games to play by each team with runaway leaders, Enyimba holding a five-point lead at the summit of the log and reigning Champions Kano Pillars holding the current longest unbeaten sequence having not tasted defeat in their last five matches, a run they will hope to extend when they face relegation haunted 2010/11 champions, Dolphins in Port Harcourt.
Regardless of Enyimba's seeming comfort at the apex of the log, the People's Elephant knows it is still be not a done deal especially when faced with a daunting trip to the story makers of the second stanza, Nasarawa United. Enyimba have indeed done remarkably well this term and presently have five points more than Kano Pillars (last season's winners) had at this stage last season and they will hope to get a result in Lafia even with the absence of three of their key men, goalkeeper Femi Thomas, defender Idris Aloma and winger Ezekiel Bassey all on national call.
Second placed Warri Wolves will be hoping to capitalize on any slip-up by the front runners when they host Akwa United in Warri. Wolves are yet to concede at home in the second stanza of the league after their defeat to Rangers in the first stanza and have scored 15 goals in their last six home games, winning all. They will however make do without their top scorer Gbolahan Salami who is also on national duty and defender Joseph Eyimofe who will sit out the match due to card suspension. They however have the attacking duo of Abu Azeez and Oghenekaro Etebo back in the fold.
There will be a relegation three-points battle in Ilorin when basement side Bayelsa United visit 18th placed Kwara United while FC Taraba also take their unlikely battle against the drop to Ibadan for a date with Shooting Stars who have failed to win any of their last three games.
Another team looking for a first win in four attempts is Abia Warriors that will entertain Lobi Stars in Umuahia while two clubs that often share players and points, Heartland and Sharks will do battle at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. The last three meetings between both clubs have ended in draws and the two players that scored in the reverse fixture, Fortune Omoniwari and Bright Ejike are now on the books of Heartland, having both joined from Sharks.
In Bauchi, continental hopefuls, Wikki Tourists will hope to do a double on FC Ifeanyiubah. The Tourists have failed to produce the sort of performance that saw them win in Oba in the first stanza when they traveled to Sharks on Matchday 33 and lost but will now hope to strengthen their grip on 3rd position when the Anambra Warriors come calling.
FC Ifeanyiubah were not in action last Matchday after El-Kanemi Warriors' non-appearance in Nnewi following an illegal players'' boycott. The embattled Borno-state team will now face Giwa FC in Katsina on their return to business while the final league match for the Matchday between Sunshine Stars and Enugu Rangers has been postponed as nine players from both teams (6 for Sunshine and 3 for Rangers) are in the national team camp.

Enyimba Secured an all important away draw at Nassarawa UTD, whileclosese rivals Warri Wolves beat Akwa UTD 3 0courtesy a hatrick from Osadiaye.
League leaders Enyimba still maintain a 3 point lead ahead of Wolves at the top if of the table.

Warriors return to winning ways, hit Lobi Stars 2-0

[b]Abia Warriors ended a run of three games without a win with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Lobi Stars in a Glo Premier League Matchday 34 encounter decided at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Wednesday.
Petite midfielder Ifeanyi Onyeali opened scores for the hosts on 65 minutes before Ndifreke Effiong's individual goal sealed the victory with five minutes left on the clock.
It was indeed a result that would flatter Warriors who were largely second best for over an hour in the intriguing contest against the Pride of Benue. The Ladan Bosso tutored Warriors were depleted by the absence of key players Chisom Chikatara, Bolaji Sakin and captain Austin Obaroakpo and the influence of the trio had a bearing on the team's shape on match day.
Veteran striker Emeka Nwanna had a rare start for Warriors but could not do more before he was replaced by Sheriff Bashir before the hour mark. Lobi Stars produced a purposeful performance in the first half and would have been rightly ahead if Tony Okpotu had finished well when presented with a golden opportunity.
It was Okpotu's strike-partner, Abdulrahman Bashir that however missed what largely cost his team as the former ABS man fired over the bar when put through on goal in the 62nd minute.
Three minutes later, Warriors scored. Fringe striker Michael Olaha did all the job down the left flank and his cut back evaded everyone before Ifeanyi Onyeali (pictured) arrived at the far post to tuck home.
One almost turned two when Olaha once again crossed into the box. Defender Ike ThankGod beat Lobi goalkeeper Agbor Ekoi with the header but Shehu Nasir hooked the ball clear on the goalline.
Victory was however made certain when super-utility star, Ndifreke Effiong latched on to a huge clearance and brilliantly hold off two Lobi defenders before slotting home beyond the hapless Ekoi.
By the virtue of the win, Warriors move up one place on the log to 8th with 50 points as they continue their distant surge for a continental slot.

Joseph Osadiaye hit a hat-trick in their delayed Glo Premier league Match Day 34 fixture against relegation troubled Akwa United on Thursday morning at the Warri City stadium to launch his side to within three points of leaders, Enyimba International.
Npfl.ng reports that the attacking midfielder was in sparkling form alongside Ikechukwu 'Mosquito' Ibenegbu who controlled and set the pace of the game.
A very cagey opening minutes with nothing of note up front came alive in the 13th minute when a corner kick from Ibenegbu was headed down in the box by Kufre Ebong. The ball fell on Osadiaye's path for the player to blast a left-footed shot into the net for the opener.
The Seasiders afterwards took total control of the game creating numerous opportunities but Ibenegbu was guilty of wasting three very good chances to double their advantage.
It was end to end stuff into the 35th minute; firstly a straight battle between Ebong and Akwa United's Harrison Ibukun with the former coming out tops to set up Ibenegbu who wasted the opportunity and straight way, a long ball into Wolves' vital area was only cleared by onrushing Rhiogbere Tejiri.
The away team did not sit back as they tested Wolves' goalkeeper Tejiri on few occasions and the goalkeeper though very shaky on the day did not disappoint making two tremendous saves in the first half.
The homers meant business as they doubled their lead in the 51st minute. Ibenegbu's corner kick was well connected by Osadiaye's head with the away defence ball watching and Olufemi Kayode glued to a spot.
The away team were reduced to ten men in the 53rd minute as Konnou Paterne picked up his second yellow card of the game and a marching order.
Osadiaye then completed his hat-trick and Wolves' third with a brilliant curling effort from outside the box to take the game beyond the boys from Uyo.
Gaffer of Akwa United, Zachary Baraje, made changes to his side but nothing changed as substitute Saviour Abanga could not save his team from the marauding Wolves.
Wolves travel to Makurdi to tackle Lobi in Match Day 35, upbeat of a good result while Akwa United are in danger of being dragged into the relegation fight with back to back away games to Rangers and Kano Pillars.

[b]LMC effects minor fixture changes as season still ends Nov 15

Hits: 165
Modified fixture schedules for the remaining games of the 2014/15 Glo Premier League season was released Thursday by the League Management Company (LMC) which earlier announced the postponement of the Match Day 34 fixture between Sunshine Stars and Rangers International.
With Sunshine Stars having six players in the Super Eagles squad leaving Nigeria tomorrow for the return leg of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) the LMC had acceded to the request of the Akure club to have their match rescheduled in line with Article B15.14 of the Framework and Rules. Under the provision, a club with five players in the national teams can request for a shift in date of their game.
According to the new schedule sent to the clubs and signed by the LMC Chief Operating Officer, Salihu Abubakar, Match Day 35 fixtures will no longer hold on Sunday, October 25 but will now be played on Wednesday, October 28. All Match Day 36 fixtures will hold on Sunday, November 1 while the rescheduled fixtures between Sunshine Stars and Rangers International and that between FC IfeanyiUbah and El-Kanemi Warriors will be played on Wednesday, November 4.
The statement listed the date for Match Day 37 as Sunday, November 8 while the last games of the season will still hold on Sunday, November 15.
Abubakar said the adjustments became necessary not only to enable the country have the services of the best players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) but also to ensure that there will be no fixture congestions.
“We set out to ensure that the best players will be on parade for Nigeria so we can defend the lead from the first leg and also clear all outstanding fixtures and have all games played at the same time”, Abubakar explained.
He pointed out that the changes did not affect the date for the final games of the season which remains November 15.

Allen intensifies plot for Sharks relegation survival

Despite their defeat to Heartland FC in midweek, manager of Sharks FC, Festus Allen has remained upbeat about his team's chances of retaining their place in the Glo Premier League next season and told npfl.ng, that they will not be going on relegation. The former ABS FC handler made the declaration shortly after the Port Harcourt-based team's lone goal defeat away to Heartland FC in Owerri.
Allen expressed his frustration on Sharks inability to secure at least a point against the Naze Millionaires on Match Day 34, but was quick to add that he was already looking forward to the Match Day 35 home date with Shooting Stars in Port Harcourt.
"We are already focused on our next game against Shooting Stars. The players will be facing their former coach (Gbenga Ogunbote), but the situation at hand requires us to do what is needful to secure all three points from that game. We were in Owerri to win, despite approaching the game on a positive mind set, but we were unlucky on the day", he told npfl.ng.
Asked if his side lost in Owerri on technical grounds, Allen rejected suggestions that they were technically inferior but promised to put his team in order ahead of the remaining match days.
"We will regroup and fix some of the few lapses witnessed against Heartland, and put up a strategy that will ensure we overcome them," he added.
The ex-Shooting Stars manager said he is optimistic, his side can pick 10 points from the remaining four games.
"The season is winding down, since the beginning, we have been playing to win. For the remaining four games, the momentum will not change. I am confident we can secure 10 points in the remaining games and maintain our premier league status. This is a realistic target," Allen said.
Despite the defeat to Heartland FC, Sharks stay a place above the relegation zone, a point better than City rivals Dolphins, who welcome Kano Pillars 2-1 on Sunday.

Ogunbote underscores reputation as 'Mr Fix-it' at 3SC

By Tola Badekale
[b]Gbenga Ogunbote has over the past seasons built a Mr Fix-it reputation for himself. His exploits with Sharks and Shooting Stars bear resemblance. The two teams started campaigns on wrong footing with average squads and were getting understandably poor results until Ogunbote stepped in.
He revived the Blue Angles so much that some of their fans even romanced the idea of picking a continental slot in the following season. Sadly that relationship ended at the start of this season. But then, there would always be teams struggling for relevance and survival. One of the definitive examples at the start of the season was Shooting Stars; a team high on nostalgic fervour of the good old days than today's hard realities. But it was at least good that the management of the Ibadan side knew who best could do the job and went for the man. It had to be Ogunbote.
He joined in June, when the Oluyole Warriors had won only two of nine games and relegation fears were maturing so early due more to the fact that an obvious lack of direction and confidence characterized their play.
But since Ogunbote stepped in, it's been a good turn around in fortunes. Yes, the damage done by poor results within the first ten match days was such that mounting a title challenge was going to be tough in a competitive league, but that notwithstanding, tails are up in Ibadan. Shooting Stars have since the Ogun state born gaffer took charge, earned 42 points home and away. Those include victories against title chasers, Warri Wolves, Sunshine Stars and Giwa FC. They also grabbed headlines with a swashbuckling 3-1 away defeat of Heartland, their first win on the road in years.
For long suffering fans of 3SC, these results and the bounce of energy that colour them provoke glances at the immediate future. Here is a man that can bring back the glorious heights of years gone by. But is Ogunbote on the same wavelength? His answer to if his 3SC project is long term was as lets-talk-about-now as it was suggestive of many other things.
"I am under contract here at Shooting Stars till the end of the season. It is a good place to work. The people have been nice to me. But only God can say where I would be next season. I still have some games to play as Shooting Stars handler this season. But if the management wants me, we can then talk. For now however, I am focusing on the remaining games this season."
For analytical minds within the 3SC fold, Ogunbote's words suggest loopholes that can be exploited by side admirers. His stock of course has risen and he does not lack admirers within the league.
In the present, his focus however carries with it lots of appreciation for those who have made it work. On inheriting a weak squad and making them punch above their weight, he says it goes beyond the head coach. "The results we have gotten so far are the cumulative of everybody's contributions."
A key element in the turnaround was the addition of experience and quality in the shape of Ajani Ibrahim and Cletus Itodo, players who shone under him at Sunshine Stars. They have contributed goals and stability to the forward play. But Ogunbote is keen to broaden the collective effort of all.
"Yes Ajani and Itodo have been very helpful to the team, just like the youthful exuberance of the younger, less experienced ones. Every member of the team is like an angel with one wing, who needs the wings of others to fly. This also applies to management of the team from the non-technical to the board members. We have operated like a united family, and this is key to what has been achieved," he said to npfl.ng
For now, there is the small matter of the four matches remaining in the season. Games against Sharks, FC IfeanyiUbah, GIwa FC and Dolphins must be played before Ogunbote takes stock. What follows after the season review and where he would be earning his pay afterwards, is for now, a billion Naira question.

LMC imposes six points deduction on Dolphins, Warri Wolves, FC Taraba

[b]The League Management Company (LMC) on Monday imposed a six points deduction on three clubs, Dolphins, Warri Wolves and FC Taraba which will automatically count if they fail to liquidate all financial indebtedness to players and Managers. Players of Warri Wolves were also admonished to follow laid down procedures in seeking to enforce their industrial rights with a promise by the LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko that the rights of every football player in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will be protected at all times.
Dikko in a warning to the players said, Wolves players, let the system work or face ban. We will fight for you and every other player in the NPFL but we must also follow the rules in seeking our rights under any circumstance".
The decision to deduct six points from Warri Wolves and FC Taraba was sequel to the failure of the two clubs to pay backlog of salaries owed the players 60 days after they were served notices of Exercise of Surmary Jurisdiction by the LMC.
In separate letters to the three clubs, Salihu Abubakar, the Chief Operating Officer of LMC, wrote, "you are in breach of Article B9.45 of the Framework and Rules, that is the failure to pay financial entitlements owed to players for a period of more than 60 days".
The LMC consequently ordered a suspended six points deduction on both teams which will be activated by November 14 should they still fail to remedy the breach.
"... The six points deduction referred to is suspended for a period of 14 clear working days and the points deduction shall immediately come into effect from the date of this decision provided that if the club fails to remedy the breach within the period".
Warri Wolves was on August 25, issued the notice of summary jurisdiction to offset financial indebtedness to the players and were handed a 60 days notice to pay off the debts. FC Taraba was also on October 2 issued an ultimatum of 10 working days to commence payment of debts owed players. Three clubs now have up to November 14, 2015 to avoid points deduction.

Ariwa joins the fight to save Akwa Utd

[b]Akwa United have moved in and out of the drop zone and having retained their 15th place on the Glo Premier League log despite last match day's thrashing in Warri by Warri Wolves. The Promise Keepers now feel bolstered by the return of dependable centre-back, Emmanuel Ariwa who trained with the squad ahead of Match Day 35 home fixture against Sunshine Stars.
It is over a month since Ariwa was stretchered off during their 1-0 loss to Shooting Stars in Ibadan on Match Day 30 following an injury but the defender has told npfl.ng, that he is happy to be back and looking forward to helping the team overcome their defensive frailties.
"I sustained this injury when we played Shooting Stars in Ibadan. My expectation right now is to join forces, to make sure we don’t go on relegation. I am coming back to contribute my own quota and to help my team. I have been supporting the team in all games it has played since I was down, and I’m so happy they have done relatively well during the time I was injured.
"Our main focus will be how to overcome Sunshine Stars on Wednesday and then head for the double road trip to Kano Pillars and Rangers. I am extremely confident that we will be comfortable by the end of the season", he boasted with an air of confidence.
Akwa United have been shaky defensively in the absence of the former Niger Tornadoes defender, the latest being the 3-0 bashing by second-placed Warri Wolves in Warri on Match Day 34.
Ariwa's return to action could be the lever the Promise Keepers need to pull off their escape from relegation and retain their place in the top flight, as they head for a rigorous final four match days of the season, beginning with a dicey home fixture against continental ticket contenders, Sunshine Stars of Akure.
The Uyo-based side are placed 15th on the log with 40 points from 34 matches and their stay in the Premier division can be guaranteed if they pick 12 points from the remaining four games, a highly unlikely possibility.

Enyimba are CHAMPIONS.......

There's no way Enyimba loses their next home game........ Good to see last season's goals king being "decisive" once more.

Kudos for the update Sir Jaypea98, like I once said.... You are "the voice" of the NPFL....... *SMILES*
