Nite is come
Wirlwind is sweeping through
Fear pounds the heart
Tomorrow seems a miracle

Pregnant silence echos a soft tune
The ears hear only d heart pounds
The eyes beholds only vain darkness
Tomorrow seems a miracle

The vultures are circling in vain
Confusion, a luxury of yesterday
Breath, a treasure slipping a way
... The iroko has fallen!
Alas,tomorrow seems a miracle!!!

hayoakins: After reading the first stanza, I was overwhelmed and lost in praise of this great piece...best poems are usually those written giving life to the lifeless (personification).

Great poem indeed.

Adieu baba....sun re o

Prophet Obadare died yesterday, Prof. Chinua Achebe followed suit... Why are the politicians not dying instead...RIP Prof and Prop, things falling apart indeed

The sun has frowned
And the wind keeps
Still and silent
The clouds pregnant
with water but refuses
to pour it.
Alas the news has been broken
and hearts broken
Women wail
and clouds let out it rain to
help mourn a legend.
The man whose pen was
his friend lives no more.
The man wrote in provebs
has travelled to the land
of the silent.
We call out your name and
all we hear are wailings
But who should mourn a
legend who has accomplished
all he needed to
Rest in peace
Baba
Your ancestors rejoice in the
land of the silent because
you are now with them.
To enlighten them with
your works.
So we celebrate you.
You left a legacy and
you will always be
remembered.

Eulogy for a mentor
I felt the pain
I bled in tears
My ogles swollen
For your demise
My mentor and guru

I felt this twinge
For you are gone
Voice of the unvoiced
Bight of Biafra hero

The land lost a precious son
World acclaimed legend
The sun has lost its shine
The moon shortly swathed
Why are you gone my mentor?

Adieu my mentor
Adieu a global legend
Adieu Achebe
The land will forever reminiscence they

Things fall apart
The centre cannot hold
C.A departs
The legend must be told
With pen in hand
And letters wrought in gold
U shone the light
Where darkness held abode

Blessed be thy works
Tested be thy words
U depart
To fall apart
No more
- R.I.P Chinua Achebe.

I like this much,
Achebe's death has the prolific writers writing. Even in death he inspired pens to move on paper and bring words to life. #Only-a-great-man-inspires-and-achieves-in-death.

I Remember (in memoriam of a great legend)

I remember the vanquishing of Amalinze the Cat
I remember the hunt for the source of the ogbanje in Ezinne
I remember i cried when Ikemefuna was killed and Okonkwo the man with a spring in his step had to be exiled

I remember he looked on his mother's family with disdain though they accommodated him
I remember that when a boy washes his hands, he can eat with the elders
I remember the tale of the bed that learnt to fly without landing as men have learned to shoot without missing

I remember the irreversible progress of colonialism and subsequent loss of our traditional values
I remember Okonko's first son dropping his name for Isaac
I remenber Okonkwo leaving in shame for the world he lost

Things fall apart and the centre cannot hold
Mere anarchy is loose on the land

Live forever, great pensman.. You did your part

I can hear the sound of the big Drum
It;s coming from the center of the Village square
Everybody is rushing to the Square
For the sound signifies that a great thing has happened
That will shake the Village to the Core of it's root

At the Square the Women are Weeping uncontrollable
The infants are hugging their mother and joining in the wailing
The old Men have their head bent and shaking
The young Men are standing but all looked crest fallen
Even the Dogs knew that something terrible has happened

The Big mirror is broken
The Iroko has fallen
The village greatest Warrior is gone forever
Things will never be the same again
The village is wailing for her greatest son.

Chinua Achebe
You were a Warrior indeed
Your greatest sword was your pen
you fought fearlessly with your sword
but I guess at some point in time the war has to come to an end for anybody
We only have to tell to rest peacefully with the Lord

AFRICA: Achebe's master shot.

You lived among us.
Walked on our sands
Shared in our lives
Rejoiced with us.
Then
You watched the red owl awake.
Saw your people maltreated and Ikemba stood .
Witnessed the boodshed and massacres,
Felt the passion of the hatred that simmered in some hearts
Cried at the sight of your maciated and starved siblings.
Stared at genocide and anarchy unleashed on your land
And
You arose and swore that you must tell
You told, You wrote
Your chalks moved on boards, the young mounted up with wings
You put pen to paper and the world went agog
Ink was your sword
Words were your paints
Eternity was your canvass
Aha!
Africa came alive to the world.
The earth buzzed like a market day
As many joggled and haggled
The picture of Africa they heard but have never seen
They hang it on their walls, shake heads and marvel
Africa seen through your eyes inspired them anew
In awe they gazed from afar.
Wincing and pondering on it's shades of dark
Behold!
The owl that migrated has found its way home again
Omens of an oil bean pod (ukpaka) it brought
Blown up carcases strewn on the land,
Streams of Blood from the bigot's ablutions
Yet the world watches again

Today they said that you passed away
I nodded but replied that you live forever
As u go to rest in his bossom.
May the love that you inspired in hearts
Cause God to arise and fight for us
Chinualuanyi Ogu, that is your name.

The poems are coming in.
Who said that Achebe died?
He got born again. He just started a new life. I mean new lives.
