Paediatric organ donors are very scarce. The NGO is looking for an opportunity to use the child to make money. Most babies with anencephaly die in-utero. Those born alive usually die within minutes & few days after delivery. The best the NGO can do is to create awareness about the disease & to offer counselling about prevention of the condition. Genetic counselling is important. The importance of antenatal care, supplimentary folic acid ingestion during pregnancy & good control of blood sugar in diabetics before pregnancy is important. The N10 million promised by the Hon. Speaker shall go down the drain without achieving anything. What the parents need is counselling on the prognosis of the disease rather than false hope.
