22-year old Godfrey Oboabona will not be totally unheard of at Arsenal. The centre back plays for Sunshine Stars FC and the Nigerian national team. Heplayed the full 90 minutes in direct opposition to the Arsenal striker Gervinho as the Ivory Coast were knocked out of the African Cup of Nations at the quarter-final stage. After knocking out the tournament favourites, Nigeria went on to lift the trophy for the third time, and Oboabona’s impressivedisplays may have earned him a dream move.
According to the Sun, Arsene Wenger will take a goodlook at him after giving him a trial with the club. The defender has made himself one of the first names onthe Nigeria team sheet, already winning 18 caps at such a young age, and would only cost around £1 million. If we do sign him, he will join the list of players who are also fans of the club like Carl Jenkinson and Jack Wilshere.
Oboabona has declared, “Arsenal are my favourite club from childhood. It is the club I want to play for.”
Hopefully he can impress Wenger and prove to be a real bargain, because they are hard to come by these days.
