It’s time you wanna be born, mama rush abroad
You wanna go to school, you’re sent abroad
You’re sick and need treatment, you go abroad
You wanna have fun and go shopping, you go abroad
You’ve found a wife material and wanna marry, you go abroad
You wanna give birth to your baby, you rush abroad
You wanna earn a good living, you go abroad
You wanna boast of a place you’ve been, you talk abroad
You wanna run for safety, you run abroad
You wary and wanna die, you’re carried abroad
And even when we can’t step out of the shores of this country, we still manage to dream, wish, dress, eat and talk like we’re abroad.

WHAT’S THIS PLACE?
A backyard of a building where ‘abroad’ is the living room?
A dark stain on the world’s colorful rays?
A miserable brackish backwater from the Dead Sea?
Or an identity of a people with no name and therefore live with no shame?

If you’re born, you school or get treated here, you’re common. If you shop, marry or have fun here, you’re common. If you’re given birth to, you earn a living or die here, you’re common. And if you boast, dream, think, wish, eat or talk of here, you’re common yet common sense eludes us all.

Governor Suntai’s aides who were involve in an airplane mishap with him had their families screaming foul because they were initially denied treatment abroad but they’ve long been released from ‘abroad’ because their injuries could be managed and treated here. Their mild injuries didn’t matter then; they just want to be treated abroad.
