Governor Muazu Aliyu of Niger on Wednesday said the state government has discovered 50 ghost schools on the nominal roll of the state’ ministry of education.
The governor who disclosed this before the weekly State Executive Council meeting at Government House, Minna, lamented that the ghost schools were also discovered on the list of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Mr Aliyu noted that the schools, which could not be located on ground anywhere in the state, must have gulped several millions of naira on monthly basis, as they have been used to siphon money from the state coffers, a situation he noted the state government is determined to tackle headlong
He also said that aside from the 50 ghost schools, 15 secondary schools in Mashegu local government area of the state has only one Arabic teacher each who teaches all the other subjects including Mathematics and English.

And Jonathan can not see any ghost to grant amnesty. That's by the way. Look at the governor that is covertly looking for the highest sit in the country. How can you place a school on a government pay-roll without having a physical structure to show that such school exist? And this schools also have ghost pupils and ghost results. We are suppose to be hearing the number of commissioners and perm-sec that have been sacked.

Stop it, ethnic bigot.... Its not about the north, rather its a problem in Nigeria as a whole.... Where were you when the federal govt said it discovered 45,000 ghost workers in the federal civil service/..... All the states in Nigeria are facing similar challenges.... Rather than politicizing or making it an ethnic issue, Gov. Aliyu should be commended at-least for that good work and that should serve as a challenge to other Governors to put up frantic efforts in getting rid of same in their various states...
