crispgg: Saintjoel, no luck with the BMW 3 Series? A friend would like to know how much it would cost to buy and clear a Mazda 323F Auto and Manual.

Sir,we will not want you to see Jelad ventures as unserious. The main reason why we've paused our search and only give out asking prices is that Nigerians don't really appreciate it when you tell them the truth, liars always have ways of runnining away with their money, that's why we hardly waste money on searches again, after wasting money on fuel and other expenses, the buyer goes intop the market with your info and gives your job to another agent.

On the Mazda 323F,the auto version is kind of scarce but check below for the manual version.

Asking price for Mazda 323F+ other expenses is 763,000(auto),630,000(manual)+120K(custom duty payable to nigerian customs).

Every information posted on this thread has been done out of freewill,if at any point in time you as a customer becomes stranded in Cotonou and want to handover another agents job to our company,we'll not accept it.

Also we will not force any prospective customer to purchase a car from parks in cotonou,if you've seen the car for cheaper prices in lagos, you may buy but make sure you check the duty papers and the car's condition, buying lagos cleared cars isn't failproof, you may be buying a car purchased in cotonou and declared as a tin can cleared cars with oluwole papers or even cleared out of tin can with fake papes or through short-payment.

On the issue of cars sold in berger, one thing we at Jelad ventures will keep asking you is this,if a dealer buys a grade one car from cotonou and pays custom duty, will the same agent sell for a price cheaper than what you can obtain from cotonou, you'll discover many of those cars are either smuugled in or short-paid,they may even be accidented cars that have been worked on.

Like we stated earlier,we will only search for clean deals only when the prospective show seriousness to buy.

For those who will need 2008 camry,we may have some good news. The asking price + other expenses for LE is 1.8M,XLE is 2.1M whie XE with DVD +navigation is 2.4M,all that's is left is custom duty payable to Nigerian customs.

Also we were notified by a custom officer who wnats to sell the audi shown below,so if anyone is interested, they should kindly let us know, thanks.

For info about purchasing a vehicle from cotonou, pls contact Gbenga on

You'll always see the difference between what Jelad ventures has to offer you as a prospective customer and what other agencies will offer you.

Always make sure you do enough research about your agent before you give him/her your job. Shown below is a 2002 passat brought by Jelad ventures and another brought by a customer who used another agency.

The first passat was brought for 690K( custom duty inclusive),alloy with leather seats+ AC while the latter was brought for 770K,manual seats with manual transmission.

We have always told prospective customers that it's not every time you've to believe agents who tell you that you can get cars for peanuts,if you want a solid grade one vehicle, you must spend money and time to get good bargains and grade one cars.

If you need a grade one vehicle, use a credible agent who knows what he/she is doing. When you want to buy a vehicle and you've a budget, all you need to do is go into the market with your agent to bargain and check what cotonou has to offer you,no big deal at all.

Many thanks to those who have sent us recharge cards and also paid transport into the parks so we could help them get pictures and vehicle information,we really appreciate you guys.

anex4real: Please Mr gbenga, can you recomend some cars with a total budget of 500k to 600k, I will like to be auto and ac fitted. Thank you.

Sinecerly, there is so much hype around auto and leather seats now that prices of these cars have risen drastically. If we deduct 130K(custom duty) from 600K,it means you're going into cotonou with 470K and even from the 470K,we still have to deduct 165K,which leaves us with 305naira(900,000 CFA),most cars you'll get for these rate will be manual transmission probably with AC,you may get some with auto but trust me,they'll be old cars like benz190.Some people/agents will advice you to smuggle it but at the end you'll still spend close to 100K smuggling it and at the end keep hiding from customs.

My advice is this, fix an appointment with Jelad ventures and we will go into cotonou together to see what we can purchase, there are thousands of cars in Cotonou or increase your budget to 700-750K.

The passat shown in our last post was bought a little under 700K (leather seats+auto) so this goes to show that most stories you've heard about Cotono are plain lies.

In our bid to give you updates about bargain prices in Cotonou,we bring to your attention this lovely 08 camry.

The owner wants to sell urgently and he's selling for 5.3M CFA(asking price+expenses),which is 1,764900 naira.Add 300,000 custom duty in Nigeria,you've 2,064,900.

Jelad Ventures , since some weeks ago that you gave estimate of Highlander and CR-V , I've been working hard to up the amount currently in my purse but the new fed govt policy may affect my plan. Are u aware that fed govt wants to ban importation of foreign used cars ( tokunbo ) into the country so as to encourage local production .

Sir,sincerely that federal government policy joke got me laughing seriously, can you name any Nigerian who doesn't import cars from abroad, these are politicians who just wake up one morning and want Nigerians feel they're working.

The policy hasn't taken effect and from the look of things I'm looking at the hardship it's going to cause when it's implemented but has it is,let's still keep our hands folded.

Re: Purchase Cheap,accident free cars 4rm Cotonou.. by saintjoel(m): 4:50pm On Oct 05, 2013
NOTICE-

The policy on tokunbo and brand new hasn't taken effect,it's still under consideration and we feel it might not take effect.

Our candid advice is this,we may feel it may not take effect and the next morning we'll wake to hear that it has been passed into law but before that, the best thing you as a customer should do is visit your nearest dealership shop in cotonou/lagos and get deals for the cash you've at hand.

This we're so sorry to say isn't the time for frivolous request like "I need a 2006 car with Ac+auto for 900K" ,this is a time you need to take action and search for good deals.

In a matter of months,we project that panic buying of cars will start because people will want to beat the 2014 deadline and with the influx of cuistomers into Cotonou and lagos markets, prices of vehicles may raise beyond your budgets.

Customers who are also planning to come into the parks this week are advised that the exchange rate as at friday was 342 naira-1,000 CFA,which also shows that delay isn't good.
Re: Purchase Cheap,accident free cars 4rm Cotonou.. by saintjoel(m): 12:38pm On Oct 06, 2013
The federal government ban on importation of cars hasn't taken effect,it's still under consideration.Don't activate your panic buttons,go into the parks and make good bargains on cars available for sale.

If you've paid deposits for cars in Cotonoou, kindly pay up this week and also if you're in anyway indebted to Jelad ventures, please pick your cars up and pay up.

Exchange rate is now 342naira - 1,000CFA.

If at anytime you need VIN info about vehicles from parks from cotonou and pixs, the fee is now 5,000 for 3 pictures,VIN report etc.

Re: Purchase Cheap,accident free cars 4rm Cotonou.. by saintjoel(m): 4:05pm On Oct 07, 2013
Note: In their official statement, the Federal government did not say they will ban
the importation of tokunbo cars. But their new tariff will indirectly achieve that purpose.
In effect, they are banning the importation of tokunbo cars without expressly saying so.

An article on this subject recently made the front page. Unfortunately, the poster did not
include what can be deemed the most important paragraph which is:

[The Director-General, National Automotive Council, Mr. Aminu Jalal] added that
importers could still clear imported vehicles at the old rates until February 28, 2014,
provided “they can prove that they had opened a letter of credit for the vehicles
before October 3, 2013.”

This answers one of the questions many of us have which is: When will the new tariff come
into effect”? Now that we know it is February 28, 2014, we can plan accordingly. That part
is clear and concise. Unfortunately the second part of that quote is not. In it, the
Director-General said:

…provided “they can prove that they had opened a letter of credit for the vehicles
before October 3, 2013.”

Is he saying that tokunbo cars purchased after October 3, 2013 will incur the new higher
tariff? It is not very clear but that appears to be what he is saying. In the meantime, it
will be advisable to thread cautiously on all new imports until that statement becomes
clearer.

WINNERS AND LOSERS

A policy change of this magnitude will no doubt have many winners and losers.

WINNERS: Once again, Cotonou will become the main entry point for smuggling
tokunbo cars into Nigeria. This will enrich the economy of Cotonou, their car dealers,
Border Agents on both sides and Cotonou clearing agents. Local spare parts dealers in
Nigeria will also be favoured by this policy as people use their cars for longer periods.

LOSERS: The obvious losers include everybody that imports or sells tokunbo cars. For
the past several years, importing a tokunbo car into Nigeria has been so easy that even
a primary school boy can do it. That’s all about to change for the worse. The average
Nigerian will also be a big loser. Soon he can no longer afford a car (new or tokunbo).

It remains to be seen whether this will be good or bad for the Nigerian economy.
Government sources are claiming it will be a positive development. But most Nigerians
including myself doubt it.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

If you have serious plans of buying a tokunbo car, do it now. Do not wait any longer.
Prices are bound to go up drastically once this policy comes into effect early next year.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS-

Q: WHY HAS JELAD VENTURES DECIDED TO CHARGE 5,000 NAIRA FOR VIN CHECKS ETC?

A: we have various reasons and they'll be stated below.

1. TRUTH- Some prospective customers will never tell you the truth, some only use Jelad ventures for information gathering then go into cotonou with other agents armed with information gathered from our outfit. We've also discovered that some Nigerians will never appreciate it when you're sincere with them, after gathering information for them,so even yank us off from BBM,whatsapp or refuse to pick our calls.Pictures below will show a 2011 benz C300 we spent days searching for, only for the customer to cut off the deal on the pretext that the car seats weren't neat.

2. TIME- We feel that time is always essential and important, especially for those who come into the parks from PH,Abuja etc.We believe you've to have a first-hand knowledge of the vehicle you're buying,so in a case where you've gone through several pictures, you'll won't waste time when you get into cotonou.

3. DEPOSITS- Afetr pressurization from several customers,we have now decided to start accepting deposits for cars/jeeps from prospective customers who don't reside in lagos or Ogun state but it must be done with commitment. We will not go into the parks to bargain until we have an understanding.

These and several other reasons has made us charge 5,000naira but please note that it's not mandatory, you may stiil call/sms us to make inquiries about your dream vehicles.

Sir,buying a car from cotonou is determined by your bargaing power.

The 2011 Benz C300 initially had 13.5M CFA placed on it but we reached a bargain of 12.5M(4.270M)+750K (custom duty payable to nigerian customs).
