Re: What Is The Best Seasoning For Cooking Generally? by armyofone(m): 8:11pm On May 04, 2013 |
true. also, you can't add yaji in soup/stew/fried rice/ogbono/egusi/okra/efo riro/goose goose etc yaji can only be use in eating suya, kose, zogole salad, massa. I was surprised to know that oyinbo too use chicken bouillon/knorr in some of their food such global epidemic |

Come to think of it my grandma neva used seasoning cubes in her soup until she passed away in '06. N we dared not use them when we prepared her meals ... she will know, no mata how small. She used instead Ogiri and lots of crayfish, n her soups were the tastiest ever. U could try those. |

My people die because of lack of knowledge don't you know msg is sweet misery @ Op I use sea salt and in the grocery stores they have tons of seasonings without msg I don't know about 9ja o[the quote author=Acidosis]brother you had better not starve yourself cos of allergy and all that.. Moderate Maggi cubes and salt will not kill you. Go and ask all the vegetarians, how many of them lived beyond 90years? What will kill a man will surely kill a man. Not even the entire doctors in the world put together can stop me from eating fried frice garnished with curry & maggi seasoned chicken. I'll eat and then lick my fingers. Thats how much I love food. If you run away from maggi because you sneeze, can you also run away from dust?[/quote] |

@trolling, don't waste your time posting quotes like "people die cos of lack of knowledge".. My grand mum is still alive, and she has been eating maggi & salt before independence.. Shes old but still bouncing... agile and mobile.. She'll clock 100 in few years, and shes seen her great grand children.. Kudos to maggi... You think we know more than all the scientists working with NAFDAC (the drug and food regulatory agency in Nigeria) ? 1 Like |

Well i see a lot of posters also recommend crayfish which i feel its not a bad idea, but from research too, its is said that cray fish are not so good for some certain blood group especially the B blood group. Its about eating right for your type. As for onion, scent leave they are also good. We still have some other spice like Turmeric, coriander, parsley and so on. My advice is never purchase already processed or mixed spice, you really can not tell what else has been added to them. |

You might be right. I used to have a neighbour whose son was ashthmatic. His case was quite bad. Somehow the parents discovered that cooking with seasoning cubes usually triggered his attacks hence began to substitute seasoning cubes with crayfish and salt when cooking. That's about a good substitute. Why not try it out? Of course with a moderate helping of pepper. I almost forgot, some people are allergic to crayfish, if you fall into that category, I'm afraid you'll have to settle for grounded dry fish or nothing at all. |

Thank you all for your individual contributions. Iru or locust bean and ogiri are clearly not for me because I have always hated those seasonings in food from my childhood. I don't even taste any food that contain these. I will stick to Ginger, Garlic and salt - a pinch of it. No Maggi, Royco, Vedan, Ajinomoto, etc All of you are great indeed: Nairaland |
