A new ICT solution that will help Nigerians to help themselves fight against crime and avoid scene of crime and black spot has been designed by a Nigeria.

The ICT solution has equally won the World Summit Award (WSA) for Mobile apps held at The wsa -mobile award at Abu-dhabi, thus bringing the country into the global scene of technology innovation.

Known as iPhone, the apps, which was designed and produced by Ihesie Peter Onyebuchi,Soyinka Oluwafemi Jacob was in m-Government and Participation category.

Ihesie was presented to the media at a press conference in Lagos, by the managing director and chief executive of Progamos Softeware Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Amos who has been in the forefront of empowering young Nigerians with ICT skills.

According to Ihesie, the iPolice is a community policing platform designed to engage more Nigerians in making Nigeria a safer country stressing that the mobile app, iPolice provides citizens with an effective way of partnering with security agencies, by reporting crimes and providing valuable information via their mobile phones.

He said that iPolice also supports community-oriented policing efforts by keeping citizens informed of crime and security issues in the neighbourhood where they live or work, thus helping to reduce crime in the community.

He further said that iPolice makes it possible to follow and analyze security and crime trends according to federal state and given location saying that the iPolice app helps locate the nearest police station with address and contact details, for quick and easy crime reporting.

The iPolice, he noted also comes with special features of the application including security news and alert security tips for safe living; a crime reporting module; an information feedback module; the town and suburb crime history and security report. He added that the ‘Nearest police station’ option gives the user’s location stating that “in keeping abreast of crime and security-related news as it unfolds, Nigerians can learn and contribute to basic crime prevention measures”.

While commenting on the new apps, which is available on Nokia store and currently making waves in India where the citizens have embrace the Nigerian made apps, Amos noted that it was a thing of great joy to see a Nigeria apps emerging a winner at a global event.

According to Amos, the security of lives and properties is of outmost importance in Nigeria, the feeling of safety and the ability to reach a security officer that will be ready to help in any security situation will not only be appreciated by Nigerians but supported by many.

Hence, he observed that the iPoliceMobile was developed in response to security challenges faced by Nigerians in recent times saying that as a security and safety app the application aims at providing Nigerians and tourist to Nigeria with tools and information to live safely and security conscious.

He stated that the mobile application provides users with benefits and functionalities such “as security tips and education from many security experts from within and outside Nigeria, thereby improving the overall security awareness and consciousness of Nigerians”.

He explained that using location capability of most phones, the app leverages on this to locate the nearest police stations with contact details and phone numbers of the DPO noting that users can also search for any police stations given any location.

He disclosed that the apps also help to access emergency numbers, “iPoliceMobile provides users with a quick dial access to national and most state emergency numbers including but not limited to toll free police numbers, fire service numbers, traffic service, FRSC ,ambulance and vehicle rescue numbers, with this feature, help should be a call away”.

Amos said that with iPoliceMobile the users will get insightful information about the various efforts by the security agencies to making our community safer, stressing, “with this users will appreciate the work being done by our security agencies thus creating a more cordial relationship between the people and the security agencies, which will help them to report or provide more useful information to the security forces that will help them better carry out their duties”.

He called on those who are thinking of security and safety news around the country to embrace iPoliceMobile saying that it aggregates most security news into a central point givers users quick and wide range of information into the security happenings and also a based for data analysis.

good initiative. I wondet how this app is going to alert the nearest police station if the person is being robbed inside his house, considering that gps doesn't work indoors
