There are two major forces in Christendom, Eastern(Orthodox) and Western(Roman Catholic) Rite. The Orthodox church sticks to and maintains the Julian Calender which was in use before the separation in between the two sects in 1054A.D. Hence, the difference in liturgical celebration and commemoration of certain christian feasts. e.g. Easter. The Orthodox Church began her journey to Paschal (Easter), 24th of March through 5th of May 2013 (Easter Sunday). It is pertinent to note that after the separation, the western rite adopted the Gregorian calender which is being used by other christian sects today.    |
