How To Safely Trim Nose Hair. by rodeo0070(m): 12:46pm On May 08, 2013
There is nothing more unattractive than a nose spilling with hair. This is a big turn off for most people. Nose hair becomes prominent, especially in men, as we age. This hair grows to help defend our nose from foreign substances including viruses and bacteria. However, when it grows too long, it becomes unsightly. Removing hair from the nose can be done either temporarily or permanently.

Having excess nose hair can result in embarrassing social situations and self-consciousness.Understanding the methods can help you decide which is right for you.

Things You'll Need:

*Safety Scissors/Blunt end Scissors.
*Electric nose hair trimmer.
*Disinfectant/rubbing alcohol.
*Tissue.

Instructions

1. Wash the inside of your nose with a cotton swap moistened with water and a mild soap. Be gentle and completely rinse the soap away to avoid irritation.
2. Find a bright area with a mirror. A magnifying makeup mirror with adjustable lighting will work, though a common bathroom mirror can also be used. If you need more light while using a regular mirror, point a small flashlight or pen light at your nostrils.

Scissors:

1. Sterilize the scissors prior to nasal hair removal, dipping a tissue in the disinfectant or rubbing alcohol and wiping along the blades. Make sure you use safety scissors, which have blunt ends, and ones that are small, like nail scissors.
2. Hold the nostril open with one hand, placing a finger on the side of the nostril, and gently pulling it sideways to expose the inside.
3. Rest the scissors on the finger holding the nostril so that the scissors are very steady.
4. Trim only the ends of the unwanted nose hair so that it no longer sticks out of the nostril. Proceed with caution as the nostril is a very sensitive area.

Tweezing

Men have been using tweezers to remove hair from their nose for years. Tweezers are a small metal tool that you hold between your fingers. It consists of two metal grippers that you pinch together to grip the hair and pull it out. This method is often used to remove extra eyebrow hairs. This treatment pulls the hair out by the roots, which makes the hair grow back more slowly. This method will also be your cheapest method. However, tweezing has its drawbacks. For one, it is one of the more painful hair removal methods. Pulling a hair out by the roots in a sharp fast motion may damage the skin. Pulling too many hairs out can result in soreness in the nose. Ask Men actually advises against using tweezers to remove nose hair. Carefully consider this method before using it.

Trimmers:

Nose hair trimmers are small electric razors that are designed specifically for shaving the hair in your nose. The head of the razor is nostril shaped for easy insertion and the blades are efficient and painless. Pain may come from an occasional yanked hair, but this is minor when compared to the pain of tweezing. These razors are also relatively cheap. However, for temporary and painless nose hair removal, nose hair trimmers can't be beat.
1. Sterilize the cutting end of the trimmers. Most trimmers have a metal pointed end, which is the end inserted into the nostril and is what you need to sterilize with the rubbing alcohol or disinfectant on a tissue.
2. Switch the trimmer on and insert the tip into the nostril, proceeding 1/8 inch at a time; at most, go to 1/2 inch inside. Make sure you have read the manufacturer's instructions, because each trimmer is different.
3. Take the trimmer out of the nose, inspecting for any missed spots, and reinsert if necessary.
4. Rinse out the inside of the nose with water by cupping some water in the hand and gently pushing it to the nose while blowing out air through the nostrils.

Laser hair removal is a permanent option to consider.

Tips & Warnings

* Trim nose hair only in the morning when you are fully awake and alert. Attempting to trim nose hair when you are tired or sleepy may result in an accidental injury.

* If you are male, don't be ashamed of using a makeup magnifying mirror. These types of mirrors not only help with precision in trimming, but also prevent accidents.

* Removing more nose hair than is necessary can result in inadequate nose protection. Realize that one of the functions of nose hair is to guard against foreign objects entering the nasal cavity.

* Although it may be tempting, do not pluck or use tweezers while removing nose hair. Irritation and possibly infection can result from plucking or tweezing.

* Have tissues on hand so you do not have to run back and forth to the tissue box when cleaning up the hair and your nose.

*Take your time as rushing may cause your nose to bleed.
