Being pregnant is the fulfilment of every woman's dream and, indeed, a very exciting phase. But unfortunately, not all pregnant women have knowledge on what they should eat and what they shouldn't. Many people, for a fact, know that everything that a pregnant woman eats will also be the food that the baby inside the tummy will be digesting, and this is the reason why future mothers must see to it that they eat the right kind of foods. The following are some of the foods that should be in the list of all expecting mothers:

1. Avocado. Avocados are very rich in vitamins, such as folic acid, are perfect for pregnant women as it is essential in the development of the nervous system and brain of the baby. It also has vitamin C, potassium and vitamin B6 that aids in the growth of the baby's brain and tissues. When eating whole grain bread, avocado spread is a great alternative for mayonnaise. However, avocados are also packed with fat (but it's a good one though), which means that this should only be taken in large amounts if you are trying to gain weight during pregnancy.

2. Broccoli. If you want your baby to have stronger bones, broccoli should regularly be included in your diet. It has lots of vitamin C, A, folic acid and, of course, calcium. It can either be stir-fried with chicken or seafood or simply steamed.

3. Carrots. This is packed with vitamin A, which is important in the development of the teeth, eyes and bones of the baby. This can be eaten raw or be included in fresh salads, cakes or meatloaves. Other vitamins that can be found in carrots are vitamin C, B6 and fiber.

4. Eggs. Eggs are rich in protein and DHA. DHA can help a lot in the formation of the retina and brain of the baby.

5. Edamame. Edamame are soybeans that are cooked and they actually taste good. Believe it or not, these beans, which serve as a snack to many, are loaded with vitamin A, vitamin B, folic acid, calcium and protein. Aside from being a snack food, edamame can also be stir-fried or mixed with pasta sauces or soups.

6. Mangoes. If you are not used to eating veggies, you can consider mangoes your best friend during pregnancy. Always treat yourself and your baby with this yummy fruit as it is rich in potassium, vitamin C and vitamin A. You can turn this into shakes, toss in salsas, or eat it simply as it is.

7. Oats. Just as much as the baby inside the womb should always be assured of good condition and good health, expecting mothers should also do the same for themselves. Oats, which are rich in fiber, can reduce the risk of hypertension, diabetes and indigestion. So, if you are aiming for a healthy pregnancy, eat oats daily.

These are only a few of the many nutritious foods that pregnant women should eat during pregnancy. The only thing that you should take note if you want to have a healthy baby inside your womb is to take care of yourself. A healthy mommy is equivalent to having a healthy baby.
