Ronaldinho and Kaká have both been omitted from the Brazil squad for the Confederations Cup by the head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari. "We could lose out in terms of experience but we will make up for that with the enthusiasm which the young players bring," said Scolari, who has also overlooked Chelsea's Ramires and the former Milan striker Alexandre Pato for the tournament which Brazil will host in June.

While Kaká has been struggling for first-team football at Real Madrid, Ronaldinho has been in good form at Atlético Mineiro, and played a starring role in their 4-1 win over São Paulo in the Copa Libertadores quarter-final last week.

Scolari has called up 44 players since retaking Brazil's reins in December and has endured a difficult start with just one win in his five games in charge – last month, the team were booed off after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Chile.

Brazil will play two warm-up matches before the Confederations Cup: against England on 2 June at the new Maracanã stadium and against France in Porto Alegre on 9 June.
