Barcelona have held talks with Chelsea over a £20million deal for Fernando Torres.

The Spain international has emerged as a target for Barca who are on the lookout for another striker as part of plans to overhaul their forward line.

Neymar has already arrived from Santos in a £52million transfer, while David Villa and Alexis Sanchez are expected to depart before the start of the season.

That will clear the way for manager Tito Vilanova to pounce for former Liverpool striker Torres, with a centre forward a priority.

Torres is happy with life at Chelsea, where has three years remaining on his contract, but would welcome a return to Spain and accept a role playing second fiddle to Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

It has been reported that senior Catalan officials have already approached Blues owner Roman Abramovich to do business, with talks described as ‘positive’ in the local media.

Barca would not be willing to spend more than £20m on Torres, who appeared to get back towards his best form last season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions. The 29-year-old has also been linked with a move to Serie A outfit Napoli, now managed by his former Liverpool and Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez.
