AGOGO (COLLECTIONS OF LITERARY WORKS IN YORUBA LANGUAGE)
Ibadan Book Club
In Collaboration with
Egbe Odo Onkowe Ede Yoruba

Ibadan Book Club in collaboration with Egbe Odo Onkowe Ede Yoruba are calling for entries in Yoruba Language from young writers across the six Yoruba speaking states of the South western zone of Nigeria. “Agogo” promises to be a platform of discovering more Yoruba language and literature writers. This special edition is dedicated to the Late Rev. Samuel Johnson (famous for his history of the Yoruba nation) and the Late Bishop Ajayi Crowther (famous for his translation of the bible from English language into Yoruba language).
Intending entrants are to submit poems of 30 to 50 lines, short stories and playlets mainly in Yoruba Language.

AIMS OF THE PROJECT

• To produce an anthology (only in e-book format)
• To discover new Yoruba language writers
• To highlight the importance of Yoruba Language in the country
• To celebrate and honour the late Rev. Samuel Johnson and the Late Bishop Ajayi Crowther.

SUBMISSION RULES

• Language Medium –Yoruba
• Poems – 30 to 50 lines
• Short Story –min 2000 to max 2,500 words.
• Play – One Act Play
• Entrants should include the followings alongside their works, age, location, telephone number. A sentence of not more than 500 words describing the work, short profile, where you heard about the call for entries.
• Permission to publish your work among the shortlisted entries.
• All entries must be submitted by July 31st, 2013.
• Any signs of plagiarism will disqualify the contestant.

BENEFITS
• Award of Certificates of Participation to all entrants.
• Award of Certificates of Excellence to only the shortlisted entrants
• Publication of the shortlisted collections in electronic book format which will be found on the Association’s website and blog, Obooko website, Amazon website and Takada online.

Ibadan Book Club is one of the upcoming book clubs in Nigeria. It was established in the year 2011 with the major aim of promoting the reading culture of Ibadan indigenes and Nigeria as a country. The club was endorsed by two High Chiefs in Ibadanland in 2012. The Chiefs are Professor Bayo Adebowale – Baale of Adeyipo Village and Otun Baale of Alegongo, Akobo Ibadan and the present Ikolaba of Ibadan Land, Oloye Lekan Alabi (one of the members of the Board of Trustees of Fagunwa Foundation).

Egbe Odo Onkowe Ede Yoruba is an initiative of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers toward promoting Yoruba Language and Literature among the young writers of Yoruba expression. Egbe Odo Onkowe Ede Yoruba is one of the indigenous authors’ associations in Nigeria.
