Popular Nollywood star, Emeka Ike has been engrossed in a phony tournament scandal. A report on Informationng speculates that the mess may land the movie star jail term.

Emeka Ike, recently decorated as a chieftain at Egbonike, Anambra State and also made Sports Ambassador for ‘RHYTHM and PLAY’, had decided to ‘give back to the community’ in Ogudu Ori-Oke Ojota Lagos state, where he grew up.

He ventured into hosting a football tournament which he tagged ‘Desert Football Tournament’, organized by Unity Football Association (UFA).

Emeka said his reason for the tournament decision was to help young talented footballers in the area discover their talents, thereby reducing crime rate in Nigeria.

He also boasted that Tottenham and Togolese striker, Emmanuel Adebayo was part of the project. He also claimed that some major clubs in Europe are also sending scouts to the tournament.

On the posters that painted the streets of Lagos, it was included that Kanu Nwankwo and the Minister of Youth & Sport, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi would special guests of honor.

Each team was required to pay N3000 for registration, and 16 teams participated in all.

Emeka Ike promised that he was going to reward the winner with 500,000 naira, the first runner up with N100,000 and the 3rd place winner with N75,000.

Aside popular musician, Daddy Showkey, who was present to spice a program during the tournament, participants say no other public figure, as boasted, was present.

Six months after the tournament, it was learned, none of the teams that won has got the promised reward.

Mr. Emeka is allegedly avoiding all calls and ignoring all text messages sent to him after he issued a ‘bounced’ bank cheque to the team men.
