Passengers aboard Arik Air flight to Uyo from Abuja on Friday evening were gripped by fear and anxiety as aerodrome light went off at the Akwa Ibom International Airport, Uyo as the aircraft which was already on approach to the runway was forced to go up again as darkness descended on the airport. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/arik-s-uyo-bound-plane-in-dramatic-air-return-as-airport-is-plunged-into-darkness/151253/ |

May there are some fugitives that are bound to be eliminated, my advise to air travellers to watchout for their co-air travellers, if big men too much better find alternative.

Can you imagine an Airport that doesn't have an automatic failover when there is power loss. Instead they have to rely on Audu the gateman to go and on the gen. Meanwhile Audu don shayo, e go on Gen, forget key for Ashawo room Ahahahahaahahaha Nigeria my country- you be Comedy Central on your own 13 Likes |

This goes along way to show how we Nigerians handling positions manage these positions. Are the airport staffs and technicians not suppose to be on shift or standby? No matter how small a position is pls let's not toy with it for Goodness sake. Imagine key to the generator goes missing at a critical moment when the Power supply is most needed which foreigner would hear this story and look @ Nigeria as a joke or an unserious nation. So if the plane were to be undertakin an emergency landing due to low fuel or a malfunction so this is how people would perish? If the oga generator isn't serious with his job abeg let him be relieved of his duty and replaced ASAP. Joooor Oº°˚˚° |

Rather than return all the way to abuja, why did'nt they just divert to port harcourt? What a waste of time and jet fuel. 2 Likes |

The 15minutes delay tactics employed by those informing the pilot about when power will be restored looks childish to me.It is like playing with human lifes on board.Anyway, this is no news at all as power outage is experienced at all time all over the country.Still waiting for the administration that will single-handedly solve this problem and it looks like a mirage. If Uncle Jona could solve this alone,he would have successfully handed himself a return ticket to Aso-rock. |

“After about 15 minutes, the pilot explained that the man responsible for turning on the back-up power unit was about 10-15 minutes from the airport and had been reached. Another 15 or so minutes later, we were told the man has arrived, that power would come on shortly and that we should expect to be down on the ground in Uyo in about 10 minutes. “Shortly thereafter, the pilot told us the keys to the power source for the alternative power unit were nowhere to be found and the tower had told him they could not power up for him to land The person in charge of the power supply locked the place but he was not supposed to lock the place. Are these stories for real? Hmmmm!!!! Is this how airports are operated in Nigeria. Are the generators not on standby mode? This must be a joke. 2 Likes |

This isn't funny at all, imagine a nightmare scenario that could occur, my goodness. Imagine if the Pilot had already descended to a point so close to the ground, and then boom, no light. I mean this stuff is serious, how can this happen at an airport. I can understand if it happens in my kitchen, but an airport? 1 Like |

We will soon hear how "impossible" it is for a plane that is nearing descent to cancel the flight. It mustcomplete its action or it overshoots the runway. 1 Like |

Can't they even have the run-way lights alone on an inverter, before the back up gen kicks in. I am not sure about the wattage of each runway light, but I am sure they can find a big enough inverter, or stack couple inverters to provide uninterrupted electricity for running those run-way lights. Why can't our people come up with solutions to these simple problems? |

Even if it toke them to flew back all the way to heathrow, i wouldn't mind; provided they do so for safety. We're getting there #naija. N/B: airport's staff and personnel have threaten to embark on strike given what they assumed to be a poor remuneration compared to civil servants and that of other agencies in the state. Perhaps, these grievances may have had a part to play in that critical circumstance. |
