Those here in the US and most people abroad have followed this case. This is the sad story of Trayvon Martin. A 17yr old black boy that was gunned down by George Zimmerman (a white neighborhood watchman). Trayvon had gone to a convenience store to buy skittles and a can of arizona iced tea. Trayvon had no weapon and committed no crime. The only crime he committed was walking home in the dark and been black. George Zimmerman says he thought Trayvon was a criminal, because robberies had been going on in his neighborhood by black teenagers.

The police did not even arrest George until rallies where held. He has been tried and found not guilty of any offense. This man took a life and was not held accountable for his actions. The gun he used to shoot Trayvon was even returned to him. If trayvon was white, would he have been gunned down or profiled as a criminal?

A lot of Nigerians that have visited or lived abroad can relate to this issue. Racism is a very ugly thing. Most blacks are profiled as thugs with no jobs, who live on welfare. A lot of Nigerians have resorted to saying they are from Africa, whenever they are asked for their origin. Is Africa a country? This is due to the fear of been profiled as a Nigerian scammer. Even Norton, the internet security giants, have profiled us. They recently advertised an anti-virus software, saying it protects customers from Spam emails from Nigerian scammers.

I have friends at work, who have been scammed before and they treat me with respect. They realize that although we are from the same country, we are not all alike. Why can't everyone be like this?
