The best way to improve performance on any PC is get rid of Windows.

I went 98% Linux 11 years ago and have LONG since adapted to the software and capabilities of that system, and found that I don't need to do without anything. At worst, I just need to do some things differently- like use GIMP instead of PhotoShop. The tradeoffs have been reduced to near zero as I now know how to use all my tools to best advantage, and run like a mad crazy fast thing on systems you advise are limited.

They are only limited by Windows. Invest in yourself. Get OFF Windows. It pays over and over and over in the long run. It has for me./quote]
