Stop bringing Religion to everything you do in life. Use your common sense and ask yourself and others who you wish to agree with on this. Can a Girl child of 7 - 17yrs be a wife? Would she face any kind of health, psychological issues? Would she be mentally stable? Would she have gotten enough training to bring up another child? Why would you want to marry a girl of that age?

To get into your religious unending debate.... I would ask you how old was Mary mother of Jesus when she conceived Jesus Christ and when she became Joseph's wife? From whatever source you check, she was damn under 18yrs and IMPORTANT question to make your Religious position on this usse irrelevant would be, does that means Christainity support under 18yrs marriage?

To start with: there is no christian position on what the age of a woman should be before she engages in a s.exual relationship. The requirement is that she is physically(se.xually) and mentally ready to participate.

Issues of age are determined by the state or governing tradition of that locality, and children grow up into the mindsets and behaviour of whatever locality the are in. So in some places, women as young as 13 are ready both physically and mentally to go into marriage, lets not forget that this was what our parents and grand-parents practiced.

Mary, the mother of Jesus could not have been more than 13-years(I think she's more like 12) old when she got pregnant, and anybody who thinks she was older is either dishonest or delusional. It was the norm in that time to marry(or engage) women when they reach se.xual readiness. So at 16-years old in that time, if your are fertile, you should be nursing your second or third child. So the issue of underage is not written in nature, they are laws made by society to cater for the welfare of itself and the challenges of the time. A 13-year old is regarded too young for marriage today, not because she is is not physically(sexually) ready but rather because socially and economically, she CANNOT be ready. We have different requirements and challenges today, different from what our parents and grand-parents faced.
